Best Christmas Movies to Watch on Netflix Right Now
'Tis the season for cozy blankets, hot cocoa and a good Christmas movie. While you cannot beat a good Christmas Classic like, White Christmas or The Santa Clause, Netflix has seemingly stepped up their Holiday 'Flix' game with some great new movies to get you in the mood for Christmas. These are the movies that are worth a mention.
- 1. The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
This fun family film takes you on an adventure as a pair of young siblings come up with a plan to film themselves as they attempt to capture Santa Claus, who is played by actor, Kurt Russell. When their plan goes wrong, they find themselves helping Santa to try to save Christmas.
- 2. The Holiday Calendar (2018)
Kat Graham plays a photographer who inherits a magic advent calendar from her grandfather. We follow her story as she discovers the calendar has been predicting her future. With a touch of romance and misfortune, this movie is definitely worth a watch.
- 3. The Knight Before Christmas (2019)
This romcom Netflix original stars Vanessa Hudgens as a science teacher who has completely lost hope in love. That is, until she meets and falls for a medieval knight who has been transported to present day. This movie gets major points for originality.
- 4. Christmas Break-In (2019)
After being stranded at school due to a snow storm, young Izzy finds herself having to save the schools custodian from three bad guys who have broken in and taken him hostage. The film includes familiar faces; Denise Richards and Danny Glover.
- 5. Merry Happy Whatever (2019)
This is actually not a film but definitely worth mentioning. This short comedy TV series is centered around a quirky family navigating the holidays as well as their personal lives. Dennis Quaid plays the father of four adult children coming home for the holidays, each with their own different and unique storylines.
- 6. Christmas With The Kranks (2004)
Spending their first Christmas alone while their adult daughter is away, the Kranks decide to “skip” Christmas, that is until their daughter surprises them and decides to come home. This comedy film will keep you laughing at the misfortunes that take place as the Kranks scramble to make their last minute Christmas party preparations.
- 7. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
This live-action remake of the 1966 animated film is one of my favorites. Jim Carrey stars as the grinch who hates Christmas so much that he decides he must stop it from happening altogether. This heart-warming film helps remind us of what is truly important.
- 8. A Cinderella Story: Christmas Wish (2019)
Laura Marano plays an aspiring songwriter/singer in this holiday take on, A Cinderella Story. Staying true to the original storyline, she lives with her horrible step family after her father passes away. She works as a singing elf at Santa Land where she meets and later falls in love with Nick who portrays Santa. Despite her step families best (or worst) efforts to essentially destroy her, she ultimately prevails and gets her happy ending.
- 9. Christmas in The Smokies (2015)
This modern-day holiday film is set in the Smoky Mountains where the daughter of an elderly couple does everything in her power to save her families beloved berry farm. With nowhere else to turn, she recruits her celebrity ex-boyfriend to help by putting on a Christmas concert.
- 10. Unaccompanied Minors (2006)
Aimed at a younger audience, this fun-loving film is sure to give you some laughs. Five children traveling alone for the holidays get stranded at an airport on Christmas Eve due to a blizzard. The children strike up a friendship and find themselves running wild and getting into all kinds of trouble. With a heart-warming ending, this film rounds out and completes our list.
These holiday films will make you laugh, cry and feel the magic of Christmastime. So, grab that cozy blanket and get to watching.
