John Carter is based upon the book titled, A Princess of Mars. The book was first published as a magazine serial in 1912, though later became published as an entire book in 1917. In the movie John Carter is a Civil War veteran that is somehow transported to Mars, where he becomes involved in a fight between the 12-foot tall barbarians and the humanoid races that live there.

He learns that the planet is in danger from a new power and that it is up to him to bring together these two warring factions before it is too late. This movie is scheduled for release on March 9, 2012 and for sure it will be one of the best fantasy movie 2012. And if you don't know remember that this movie have a sequel titled John Carter: The Gods of Mars with release date unknown for now.

Mirror Mirror is a remake of the classic tale of Snow White, with a few interesting twists thrown in. Julia Roberts plays the part of the Evil Queen, who banishes the rightful Princess Snow White - played by Lily Collins - from the kingdom when Snow White's beauty captures the heart of Prince Andrew Alcott - played by Armie Hammer - the man the Evil Queen intends to marry for his money.

Forced to flee into the woods, Snow White is rescued from a dangerous beast by a group of dwarves that are highway robbers in this version. They must work together in order to rescue her kingdom and the Prince from the Evil Queen's clutches. This movie is scheduled for release on March 16, 2012.

Wrath of the Titans is the sequel to the movie, Clash of the Titans. Ten years following the events of the first movie, Perseus - played by Sam Worthington - is trying to live a quiet life with his son, Helius. But when the Gods become weakened by humanity's growing lack of faith in them, they lose control over the Titans and Kronos, who are then able to escape their prison.

With the war that follows, and Hades and Ares making a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus (played by Liam Neeson), Perseus must act to save his father before the Titans became too powerful to defeat. Along the way he enlists a team to help him; Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Agenor (Toby Kebbell), and Hephaestus (Bill Nighy). This movie is scheduled for release on March 30, 2012 and is one of the best fantasy movies 2012. If you like it remember that Clash of the Titans 3 have release date set for 2014.

Jack the Giant Killer is based on the old fairy tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. In this version of the tale, however, an adult Jack's - played by Nicholas Hoult - carelessness opens the way for a fierce race of giants to return to earth and the capture of the woman he loves, Princess Isabelle - played by Eleanor Tomlinson.

In order to save her and the entire kingdom, he will have to fight harder than he ever has in his entire life. This movie is scheduled for release June 15, 2012.

Update: Release date may be moved to 2013.

Brave is a computer-animated Disney Pixar feature about a young girl, Princess Merida, who lives in the Highlands of Scotland. Merida - voiced by Kelly Macdonald - is far from being a typical princess, wanting her independence and taking pride in her skills as an archer. Brave have very good chances to become the best fantasy movie 2012.

Defying an age-old tradition, she causes fury and chaos, especially between the lords of the land; Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), Lord MacIntosh (Craig Ferguson), and Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane). When she consults an old Wise Woman on what she needs to do to fix things, she becomes cursed because of a poorly-made wish.

With no choice but to work to undo the curse before it is too late, Merida soon discovers the meaning of true bravery. This movie is scheduled for release June 22, 2012.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green is about a wonderful couple, Cindy Green (Jennifer Garner) and Jim Green (Joel Edgerton), unable to conceive their own child despite how hard they've tried. One night they decide to imagine what a child of theirs might be like and what events he might experience in his life, writing each down on a piece of paper.

They gather all these papers together in a small wooden box, which they then bury in the back yard. The following day a young boy arrives on their doorstep, covered in dirt and claiming them as his parents. They easily come to love the boy, soon realizing that there could be more to him than meets the eye. The movie is scheduled for release on August 15, 2012.

There are so many fantasy movies in 2012 that you don't want to miss like: Dark Shadows, The Amazing Spider-Man, Snow White and the Huntsman, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Rise of the Guardians.

      I was pleasantly surprised by John Carter. A friend made me watch it on DVD, and I had low expectations, but it was pretty good. And I had forgotten all about Jack the Giant Slayer. As a fantasy movie junkie, I'll have to put that next on my need-to-rent list.
