Best Female Pop Vocalists

1. Mariah Carey: Where do you even start with Mariah Carey? Mariah Carey is considered an icon now in her genre. My favorite song by Mariah Carey is Sweet Fantasy. It brings back a special trip that I went on while in college. Mariah Carey is truly a legacy for pop and R & B music. Her lungs belt out those beautiful notes. She has many number one hits and has an album of just #1's! She ruled the 9's and she continues to shine into the 2000s. She has the largest lungs I have ever heard. She can go from one octave to another, without any effort whatsoever. Carey does not have a stop button and she continues to rule on television and in the world of pop music as well.

2. Madonna: The second most popular recording artist of all time. Madonna. Madonna is a singer, songwriter, actress, a director, a business woman and a dancer. She has hits such as Like A Virgin, Borderline and there are so many, many more. There are too many to list. Madonna at times has been very controversial but, her sales have not slowed down in the least. Madonna has been very controversial in the past when she kissed Britney Spears. That is just Madonna. She likes that surprise factor. Madonna is also known for the adoption of her children.

3. Whitney Houston: We lost this star to a combination of drowning that was most likely related to drug use. In 2011, she was gone.Wow, this was such a tragedy. She transcended and not just the music world and was in the very popular movie Body Guard. I will always remember her version of The National Anthem, and she is known for the song I Will Always Love You. Her singing voice is unmatched in my opinion and she really could belt out the notes.

4. Janet Jackson: She got her start with The Jackson Five, learning the beats, learning the steps. She is still popular today into the 2000s. Known for her talents of singing and acting. She is the sister of the late Michael Jackson. Her greatest hits include: That's The Way Love Goes and Love Will Never Do Without You and What Have You Done For Me Lately. She has acted for many years as an advocate for her brother.

5. Gwen Stefani: Her album Love, Angel, Music, Baby came out in 2004, and produced several hits for her. She is a fashion designer, occasional actress, lead singer for the band No Doubt. Her tops hits are: Cool, Hollaback Girl and The Sweet Escape. I like the fact that she is different and isn't afraid to just be herself. I watched a special on her, how she has had her heart broken in the past.

6. Cindi Lauper: A female artist who has released forty singles. She is also an actress in addition to singing. Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Time After Time, She Bop and All Through The Night. These songs came from an album that produced four top five singles for her when she was in her entertainment prime. Lauper sought attention with her attire as well and she received it from the press.

7. Amy Winehouse: This female artist was able to only produce two albums before she died before her time from a drug overdose. She is known for her white skin and black eyeliner. Top hits include: Rehab, Valerie, Love Is A Losing Game and Back To Back.

8. Tina Turner: Turner is a legacy in her own way. Let's Stay Together and What's Love Got To Do With It. Turner strikes me as a strong lady who has seen her share of adversity over the years and has overcome. She is a singing power house and has won numerous awards throughout the years. Her voice can carry with loud and deepness or flow softly from the mic.

9. Christina Aguilera: Aguilera made her national television appearance on Star Search and from there she was on The Mickey Mouse Club from 2003-2004. She is a musical power house and has the ability to do musical runs with her voice that I haven't heard since Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. Greatest hits include: Ain't No Other Man, Beautiful. She is currently starring on The Voice as a judge and a voice coach.

10. Britney Spears: Spears is a southern girl born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana who was discovered as a teen and immediately her career. Hit Me Baby One More Time became an instant hit followed by Oops I Did It Again. She was a household name and all the girls wanted to be like her. Spears still has time to shine again is she was inclined to try.
