Top 10 Hollywood Car Films

1. Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) Nick Cage, Angelina Jolie and Robert Duvall take the lead roles in this action flick. Memphis Reigns (Cage) is a retired car thief but, he is forced to return to crime in order to steal 50 cars within 72 hours to save his brother. Some of the best cars in this movie are the Aston Martin, Bentley, Hummer and of course the 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500. The car chases make this movie intense from beginning to end and it rarely slows down.

2. The Fast and The Furious (2001) Paul Walker, Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez round out this top rated cast. Illegal street racing is the theme of this movie and Vin Diesel is a master car thief. Walker is undercover and trying to get in on the inside of this criminal car racing enterprise. The Eclipse is a popular car in the movie. The film has spawned a bunch of sequels and video games. The car races, crashes, fights and acting in this movie are well done.

3. Smokey and The Bandit (1977) Burt Reynolds, Sally Field and Jackie Gleason round out this cast. Smokey, another word for the law, is played by Gleason and Reynolds is smuggling alcohol across state lines without a license. The comedy is constant, as is, the action in this movie that also produced two sequels and two television shows as well. The car Reynolds drives in this film is a 1977 Trans Am Special Edition and it is used to evade the police several times.

4. Christine (1983) This horror film was made by John Carpenter after being written by Stephen King. The car named Christine chases down people and kills them. The car is a 1958 Plymouth Fury and it runs over people or suffocates them. Even when this evil caris crushed it unfolds and becomes new again. The driver of the car becomes obsessed with it and loves it like a girlfriend and like a couple the car can get very jealous.

5. Mad Max (1979) This futuristic film stars Mel Gibson as Mad Max going up against a brutal motorcycle gang in a time of gas and energy shortages. The movie is rated R, made in Australia and has some very intense scenes on the road. Max has a Ford XB Falcon and he uses it for revenge in this movie. The weapons and ruthlessness of Mad Max is something you gotta see to believe. The music soundtrack goes great with the movie especially during the road rage scenes with the bikers.

6. 2 Fast 2 Furious (2003) This is the second film in the Fast and Furious franchise and it was directed by John Singleton. Paul Walker reprises his role but this time with Tyrese Gibson and Eva Mendez in starring roles. Walker must take down an Argentine drug boss in order to clear his police record and go free. Ludacris is in this movie and it has more street racing than the original including crashes and severe gun play and drama.

7. Starsky and Hutch (2004) Ben Stiller is Starsky and Owen Wilson is his partner Hutch. Snoop Dogg is Huggie Bear and he fits the role perfectly. It's more of a spoof of the old Starsky and Hutch T.V. show more than an actual remake. It has plenty of action but at it's core the film is a pure comedy from start to finish. Stiller will make you laugh because of his undercover character he does at the bar and of course with the way he drives his 1975 two door Gran Torinos.

8. Vacation (1983) Chevy Chase is Clark Griswold and he and the family truckster are ready for a road trip with the wife and kids. Its one laugh after another as Clark, his wife Ellen (Beverly D Angelo) and their son and daughter travel around the country seeing sites and causing trouble on their journey. The station wagon is a modified Ford LTD country squire wagon. The Griswold family is on their way to an amusement park called Wally World.

9. Thelma and Louise (1991) It's the modern day Bonnie and Clyde starring Susan Sarandon as Louise and Geena Davis as Thelma. Brad Pitt is also in this adventure film. Louise owns a 1966 Ford Thunderbird and it's a convertible. Louise ends up killing a man who was harassing Thelma and now the two ladies are on the run trying to get into Mexico before they are caught and jailed.

10. Death Proof (2007) A Quentin Tarantino film that stars Kurt Russell as a lunatic stuntman who picks up hitchhikers and kills them. This movie is no holds barred and the violence is very graphic to say the Minimum. The ways Kurt Russell kills is brutal and unforgiving and his stunt car is a 1971 tricked out black Chevy Nova SS 396.

Nice List Leslie, I do like Gone in Sixty seconds, but I think the Fast & Furious movies have pretty much taken over the car/racing movies. Thumbs up on your hub.
