Perfectionist Behind The Cameras

1. Martin Scorsese: He has received The Lifetime Achievement Award. His films have had twenty Academy Awards twenty-six Golden Globe Nominations as well as twenty BAFTA nominations. Scorsese has a way that puts you in the heart of the matter whether it's a dramatic or an action film, he will make your heart pound. He has made such classics as: Raging Bull, Cape Fear, The Aviator, Gangs In New York and Good Fellas. He is known for making Mafia and gangster films. Also, the violence in his films is very intense.

2. Steven Spielberg: Spielberg co-founded Dream Woks Studios and has been making movies for over 40 years. He has won 4 Oscars, 11 Emmy awards and 4 Golden Globes. Spielberg's movies have been on a wide variety of topics which is why he is one of the best ever. Some of his best hits include: E.T., Jaws, Lincoln, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan. Aside from being a top flight director he is also a great writer and producer and continues to put out tremendous cinematic hits on a regular basis.

3. Alfred Hitchcock: He is a legend who made films for six decades. Hitch directed 52 movies and he is famously known as, The Master of Suspense. Many put Hitchcock at number 1 and it can definitely be argued. He was a true pioneer who invented twist ending and constantly changing plots. His camera views kept every move intense, especially in Psycho. He is great with horror and suspense but, he has also directed romantic comedy's and action films. Some of his best are: Rich and Strange, Psycho, Rear Window, Birds and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Not to mention that he directed 17 shows and hosted Alfred Hitchcock Presents (Television Horror Show).

4. Francis Ford Coppola: Coppola won several Oscars, Golden Globes and Lifetime Achievement Awards during his 50 plus years as a director, producer and screenwriter. He is famous for writing Patton and making the three Godfather films but, he has done a lot of other major works in Hollywood. Some of his best works and there are a lot of them, are: Godfather 1 and 2, Apocalypse Now, The Outsiders, Patton and The Great Gatsby.

5. Orson Welles: He is a radio legend and directing pioneer. Welles had a way of making the watcher feel as if they were actually in the action. Once on radio, Welles put people all over in a panic with the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds because everyone thought it was really happening. His movies are legendary to say the least but here are some of my favorites. Citizen Kane, Casino Royale, Macbeth, Othello, Waterloo and King of Kings.

6. Quentin Tarantino: Tarantino has his own style of directing, to say the least. He uses musical styles to help create the mood and he is somewhat controversial behind the camera. He has written, produced, directed and even played, in several of his film projects. Some of his top films are: Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Bastards, Desperado and From Dusk till Dawn.

7. Clint Eastwood: Eastwood is famous for acting in westerns and playing as Dirty Harry in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Eastwood has been directing, writing and producing films for what seems like forever now. He has won several awards for his directing including five Academy Awards. My favorite films from Clint Eastwood are: Million Dollar Baby, Blood Work, Mystic River, Unforgiven, True Crime and Pale Rider.

8. James Cameron: He is not only a great writer and director but, a true pioneer with underwater filming and 3-D. He actually helped with remote vehicle technologies under the ocean. As far as his big screen directing he had his share of great ones. Cameron has been nominated for tons of awards but, here are just a few of the ones he took. An Oscar, two Golden Globes and two Lifetime Achievement Award. Some of my favorites from Mr. Cameron are: The Terminator, Aliens, Titanic, Avatar 2 and Sanctum.

9. Peter Jackson: Jackson has a style that brings you into the movie that makes it a must see flick. Some of his best awards were winning an Oscar, Golden Globe and three Critics Choice Awards. He has a camera style all his own. Just watch the 2005 version of King Kong, and you will be able to tell his expertise. My favorites from Mr. Jackson are: King Kong (2005), The Frighteners, The Lovely Bones and Brain dead.

10. Oliver Stone: Stone focuses on making political and war related films. He tells it like it is and sometimes that means grotesque or brutal. He has won many awards for his movies including, winning the Oscar three times and four Golden Globe awards. My favorites from Mr. Stone are: Platoon, Scarface, Nixon, The People vs. Larry Flint and Salvador.
