Great Sports Movies

1. Rocky: Sylvester Stallone won the Academy Award for this underdog boxing story that he wrote and starred in. Rocky went from being on the bottom to the top. In the end, the club fighter underdog gets to fight The Heavyweight Champion, Apollo Creed for the title. His trainer Mickey is by his side. He also has his girlfriend, who later became his wife whose name is, Adriane.

2. Hoosiers: This college basketball movie is about the Indiana Hoosiers and it is based on the 1954 Milan High School Championship team. They were major underdogs but, they possessed a team spirit that was unbreakable. The Hoosiers had many great games and the fans were there for the entertaining ride. Although their skills were average, the team had heart and determination that was unmatched. They proved that when you have the determination, like they did, you can accomplish anything.

3. Raging Bull: Robert De Niro plays as troubled boxer Jake La Motta and wins the Oscar in this deep portrayal of La Motta. The film shows the highs and lows of this troubled Hall of Fame boxer. It shows his ring performances against boxers such as Sugar Ray Robinson.

4. Rudy: Rudy was too small to play for Notre Dame but, made the team anyway. Based on a true story, his family and friends thought he was crazy but, Rudy was determined. What you ask was he so determined for? He wanted nothing more than, to make the team at Notre Dame. Through his hard work and determination he made his dream come true.

5. Brian's Song: James Caan stars in this film about the former Wake Forest and Chicago Bear who was stricken with cancer. The story is true and moving and the ones who acted in this movie (which are numerous) . They just make this a great movie and very dramatic to say the least.

6. Remember The Titans: Denzel Washington shines as usual as a black football coach in a white city. With a lot to overcome, he takes his team to the top. The city is racist and Denzel Washington must win every game, as well as teaching morality. He was more or less a father figure to most of the team.

7. We Are Marshall: This film shows the aftermath of the tragic plane crash that killed 75 people including, 37 football players and the athletic director. It is a very sad and moving film based on true life events. It is always sad to and entire team perish in a crash.

8. Field Of Dreams: A fictional baseball film starring Kevin Costner, Burt Lancaster and Ray Liotta. A sign causes Costner to build a baseball field out of his corn field and what happens next is a field of dreams. "If you build it, they will come."

9. Radio: Cuba Gooding Jr. was great playing a mentally handicapped high school kid who helps the head coach of the football team. The head coach helps him by befriending him. It shows people's bigoted side and also it shows some people's compassion. This was one of Cuba Gooding Jr's best acting performances and he showed his versatility in this film.

10. Sea Biscuit: Sea Biscuit was the under sized under dog but, that did not matter because this horse had a will to win and nearing the end of the Great Depression, a true underdog success story is just what America needed.
