Telugu film industry completely shifted its base from Chennai to Hyderabad, India in the early 1990s, during N. T. Rama Rao's political reign. Experienced directors like K. Raghavendra rao, A. Kodandarami Reddy, B. Gopal and Kodi Ramakrishna along with major stars have delivered well balanced commercial blockbusters. Music by Ilayaraja and K.V. Mahadevan remained to be a key asset. Along with commercial blockbusters, there were story based films like Ankusham and Karthavyam.
Released on 14 July 1990, Alludugaru is a musical romantic drama directed by Darshakendra K. Raghavendra Rao and produced by Mohan Babu who is also the hero of the film. This is remake of Malayalam film, Chitram. This film stars Mohan Babu, Shobana and Ramya Krishna in a guest role. The music of this film is by the legendary K. V. Mahadevan.
This commercially successful film ran for more than 100 days and K. J. Yesudas won Nandi Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song "Muddabanthi Puvvulo". This film was a turning point in Ramya krishna's career and established Mohan Babu as a Hero.
A girl who is brought up by her father's friend loves a boy which her father who lives abroad disapproves. She decides to go against her father. But, the boy ditches her when he knows that she might not get her father's wealthy inheritance. In the mean time, her father changes his mind and comes back to to meet the couple. He cannot be disappointed as he is a heart patient. Her uncle hires Mohan babu to act as her fiancé. They both doesn't get together well while acting as a happy couple in front of her father. Eventually, she falls in love with Mohan Babu while his flash back is revealed where he is a freelance photographer. His wife a mute dancer and they both have a daughter. In a misunderstanding, he loses his wife and he becomes a murderer. Film ends when the father leaves back to abroad and Mohan babu leaves to serve his sentence.
This film is a great family entertainer with stomach tickling comedy and essential plot twists and emotions. The music of the film remains to be a highlight till date.

Released in 9 May 1990, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari is fantasy film directed by K. Raghavendra Raoand produced by Ashwini Dutt. This film has an ensemble cast with Chiranjeevi, Sridevi, Amrish puri, Baby Shalini and Baby Shamili. The film had 100-day runs in a number of theaters and a 369-day run in one center despite the 1990 Andhra cyclone.
Raju, a tourist guide and a caretaker of four children had to go to Manasa Sarovar in Himalayas to save one of the child. At the same time, Indra's daughter, Indraja comes down to visit from Heaven. In this visit, she loses her ring which is her passport to heaven. Raju get that ring and Indraja had to follow him. She gets close to him and children. In a fight, local goon suspects Raju's supernatural power and meet's Mahadrishti, a sorcerer. He eventually kidnaps Indraja and Raju fights and gets her back. The film ends when Indraja is unable to leave Raju and stays back with him as a mortal.
While maestro Ilaiyaraaja's music tops the charts and remain evergreen, Ajay Vincent visuals remains to be a pleasure to watch especially the way Sridevi is shot as a celestial being. This film is made by Raghavendra rao after a few failures. This film still attracts audience from age 6 to 60 and remains to be a wholesome entertainer.
Karthavyam is a political drama, action film directed by Mohan Gandhi and written by Paruchuri Brothers. This film is roughly based on real life story of Kiran Bedi, IPS Officer. The lead role is played by the female superstar Vijayashanti and won the National Film Award for Best Actress.

Released on March 09 1990, Kondaveeti Donga is a swashbuckler film directed by veteran A. Kodandarami Reddy and written by Paruchuri Brothers and Yandamuri Veerendranath. The technically brilliant film was the first Telugu film to be released on a 70 mm 6-Track Stereophonic sound. The film had collected a distributors share of 7.4 million on its opening weekend. This film stars Chiranjeevi, Mohan Babu, Sharada, Vijayashanti, Radha, Rao Gopal Rao and Amrish Puri. Cinematography is handled by the legendary K S R Swamy.
Raja studies in town with the donation of his village people. However, when he returns, he notes that his people are being fooled by the village heads. While he gets IAS posting, he rejects it. With a black mask, red scarf and riding on a white horse, he decides to save his people. Two sisters, a doctor and a police officer under cover visits the village and eventually fall in love with him. The village heads starts committing crime in Raja's name. Rest of the film is about how Raja ends this feud.
The technical brilliance and stylish screenplay remains to be the key highlights of this film. The chart topping and evergreen songs are composed by maestro Illayaraja. This film remains to be another commercially well balanced blockbuster.
Bamma Maata Bangaru Baata
Rajendra Prasad is the grandson of Bhanumati and Nutan Prasad from a rich family in village. Bhanumati wants him to get married while he marries an orphan, Gowtami against his grandmother's wish. Bhanumati decides to donate all the wealth while the grandfather comes to meet Rajendra prasad and mistakes neighbour's son to be Rajendra prasad's son. The grandparents get closer. To cover the lie, Rajendra prasad hires a mother and son who backfires and keeps increasing their demands. Eventually, the truth is revealed and leads to a comical climax fight.
Banumathi and Nutan Prasad's character are the highlights and a magical car at the climax is a unique attraction for Telugu films. This film is infamous for an accident in which Nutan Prasad broke his back.
