Best romantic movies to watch with your boyfriend
Need help choosing a good romantic movie to watch tonight?
How to choose a romantic film your boyfriend will love!
It's not that guys don't enjoy watching romantic movies. There are so many good films out there, with clever quotes, enjoyable plot and great actors. What guys don't like is films that star Prince Charming; or unrealistic modern day versions of him. They are also not interested in wedding plans; any conversation about bridesmaids dresses can probably bore them to death.
So, if you are trying to find a great movie to watch with your boyfriend or husband at home, ask yourself a couple of questions: Am I sure this is not too cheesy? Does it have a bit of "guy humour"? Even some action maybe? Well, you may have found the perfect mix: a film that both you and him with love!
Don't forget to take into account the kind of movies your boyfriend usually likes! If he is an arthouse movie fan, pick movies like "Before Sunrise" or "Edward Scissorhands". If he is a hopeless romantic, he will enjoy movies like "Sabrina" or "Chocolat". If he cannot watch anything without action, try movies like "Original Sin" or "Mr and Mrs Smith".
Here is a list of romantic movies I have watched with my boyfriend, which I have chosen and he really loved! Needless to say, I also enjoyed watching them. Not all of them are comedies; the one thing they all have in common is that they are excellent and enjoyable films, with great direction, screenplay and performances.
#1 Forgetting Sarah Marshall
This "ultimate romantic disaster movie" is produced by Judd Apatow, and that itself can pretty much guarantee that any guy will love this film. A devastated oversensitive guy who got dumped by his celebrity girlfriend takes a luxury vacation. His sole purpose is to move as far away from his ex girlfriend as possible; only to find out that she also vacates there with her new boyfriend. Jason Segel is simply hilarious while weeping and moping until he meets the sexy and sympathetic hotel clerk (Mila Kunis). It's the perfect mix of romance, good laughs and some vulgar humor!

#2 Love Actually
Why don't you choose to go British for the night? This brilliant romantic comedy narrates different love stories that take place around Christmas, but it's far from being a Christmas movie.
By choosing to present different types of love stories, "Love Actually" avoids becoming overly sentimental. The main characters are looking for love, nobody knows exactly where and how to find it, but they can feel it's all around them. The really great thing about this film is that it doesn't dive into any stereotypes. The pursue of true love is treated with a seriousness almost unseen in a romantic film before. For Richard Curtis (writer and director) love is essential more than it's enjoyable. Or, in the words of the 10 year old boy (Thomas Sangster) who is not too young to be in love, what is "worse than the total agony of being in love"?
That been said, there are scenes in this film that will make you laugh your head off. Who can choose between the self-absorbed aging rock star, or the guy who leaves for the States convinced that American girls will fall for his Britishness, or the shy body-doubles for sex scenes who fall in love!
Romantic, funny, incredible cast and great music: it is a movie both you and your boyfriend will definitely like!
#3 Definitely, Maybe
A sweet, sweet movie, about a 30 something guy who talks to his young daughter about his past relationships. After attending her first sex-ed class, 10-year-old Maya (Abigail Breslin) tries to understand her dad's previous relationships, how he met her mother, and why her parents are now getting a divorce.
This movie is sweet and funny, it is narrated through a guy's perspective and is not always politically correct (the moments when Ryan Reynolds gets carried away and forgets he is talking to a little girl are hilarious)! The cast is excellent; it's hard not to find Abigail Breslin simply adorable! "Definitely, Maybe" is a wonderful, fresh romantic comedy that truly stands out!
Dad, I can't believe you smoked... and drank... and was such a slut... But I still love you.
After watching "High Fidelity" do you tend to:
#4 High Fidelity
This is definitely a guy's romantic comedy. And one of my favorite films of all time! After a recent break up, a guy goes back to his five ex-girlfriends and tries to understand what he did wrong. High Fidelity will make you think about the complexity of human relationships, and it will make you laugh your head off. Especially with the music geeks in the record store who keep arguing about bands and kick out customers who don't meet their standards!
You will have a great time watching this movie at home. It is also the kind of film you can watch again and again and not get bored of it! And, your boyfriend will absolutely love it!
#5 As good as it gets
Jack Nicholson is brilliant at this movie. He plays a guy who is a "package you don't want to open". Self-absorbed, rude, anti-social, a loner and full of obsessions. He basically destroys every romantic moment he can possibly have, just by "being him". But he makes the grumpy naggy people he encounters wonder if maybe in life "this is as good as it gets".
This is a classic romantic comedy with truly spectacular performances, fresh, warm and entertaining! What's not to love? I actually liked it even better the second time I watched it!
"Sell Crazy somewhere else, we are all stocked up here"
#6 Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind
Have you ever imagined that anyone can mix romance, science fiction and realism and make an incredible quirky romantic movie? A heartbroken man decides to undergo a procedure that will literally make him forget about her; that is, to medically erase his ex girlfriend from his memory. But, as he gradually loses his memories, he realizes that he has made a huge mistake which is probably too late to fix! Only Charlie Kaufman could manage to create a romantic movie that doesn't remind us of anything we have ever watched before! Forget about banalities and anticipated plot twists and enjoy this truly unique movie!
#7 How to lose a guy in ten days
What any guy will love in this movie is that it brings forward all the classic mistakes women make to drive a guy away! Kate Hudson intentionally does all the wrong things women do in relationships, planning to write a magazine article about it. What any girl will like about this movie is that Matthew McConaughey keeps trying anyway (well, he has made a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him in ten days!).
The result of their meeting is hilarious. She takes him to chick flicks, Celine Dion concerts, moves into his apartment, acts irrationally, gets too jealous and sensitive all the time, even ruins poker night! This romantic comedy will make you laugh till you cry!
"How to lose a guy in 10 days" may be the "lightest" movie in this list, but it's witty, cute, funny and you will have a great time watching it!
#8 Corpse Bride
Being a huge Tim Burton fan, I have to admit that "Corpse Bride" is not his best film. However, you will truly enjoy this funny, romantic, animated film. The storyline is somehow unconventional. Victor is a shy guy who is about to get married to Victoria. He goes into the woods to practice his vows but accidentally finds himself married to Emily, the corpse bride. He will soon have to choose between the world of the living and the world of the dead, and his two brides.
The animation, the music and the voice actors are exceptional. The story is sweet and funny. Add a little harmless necrophilia and a gothic scenery and you'll have everything you'd expect from a Tim Burton movie!
#9 Annie Hall
I saved the best for last. "Annie Hall" is an absolute must-see! It is so popular that even if you haven't watched it, you have heard references to it, or have read some of its brilliant quotes. Many will argue that this Woody Allen movie has been an inspiration for every movie about relationships produced ever since. It's funny, it's real and it's romantic. Watch it.
"It reminds me of that old joke- you know, a guy walks into a psychiatrist's office and says, hey doc, my brother's crazy! He thinks he's a chicken. Then the doc says, why don't you turn him in? Then the guy says, I would but I need the eggs. I guess that's how I feel about relationships. They're totally crazy, irrational, and absurd, but we keep going through it because we need the eggs".
