Big Man Walking

Big Man Walking is a 8m tall animated Giant Puppet. He weights 1.5 ton and has complex mechanics inside. Giant’s eyes are remotely controlled and a video camera on his forehead streams live video about his adventures into his website bigmanwalking.com

Where he was made

He was made by the Glasgow-based company Puppet Lab in 2009. The complex mechanics inside the giant are made of steel and outside he has a blue-painted shell made of polyurethane. He is animated by a team of puppeteers and is supported by a mobile crane as he walks with the speed 1 mile an hour.

The Legend of his origin

Ten thousand years ago two giant birds were fighting on the sky. One broke away and as it was approaching the ground, people saw it was not a bird, but a giant man with two enormous wings. As he fell, his wings smashed into many pieces. People looked after the giant, he recovered and rebuilt his wings. In return for peoples’ kindness, the giant cleared their land of all obstacles and dangers and then disappeared.

What he is doing

The giant returned to the earth and now he walks through the streets of Scottish Towns to greet people and join in their celebrations

Teaches12345 - thank you very much for your comment. Yes, Big Man Walking is very impressive sight, because it is so huge and , yet , it can communicate with public - nod head, show emotions and even shake hands.
