Blu-ray The Next Generation of DVDs

Updated on March 5, 2008

There is a new wave of advancement in the visual experience that will likely replace DVDs. It is the Blu-Ray Disc and was originally developed to record, rewrite, and playback high-definition video and store impressive amounts of data. It has the crisp, brilliantly colored picture of HDTV. With five times the total capacity of a conventional DVD, that can support HD's storage capacity, holding up to 25GB on a single layer disc and 50GB on a dual-layer disc. This larger capacity combined with video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unparalleled HD viewing and audio experience. It will also offer a lot more room for additional content and special features.

Right now, many of the planet's leading consumer electronics companies reinforce Blu-Ray, seeing it as the next generation in viewing enjoyment. Movie studios also support the Blu-Ray format and look forward to releasing new feature films on Blu-Ray Disc day-to-date with the traditional DVDs. And if you worry about your DVD collection becoming an unused artifact, do not fear - products that are able to read/write CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Ray Discs are being created.
