Boom, badoom, boom, what?
Lets be honest, the first time you heard the Nicki Minaj song, “Super Bass” could you understand everything she was saying? I couldn’t, but I loved the beat and what I could understand (usually just the chorus). Then I saw the viral video of Sophia Grace and her cousin Rosie singing it word for word -- an eight year old was singing every word! So I looked up the lyrics and couldn’t believe what I ‘thought I was hearing’ was actually not that at all (not the first time this has happened to me).
Nicki Minaj, like other rapping females is strong, beautiful and successful. What sets her apart from other rappers is that she writes her own raps. She told Fader Magazine that, “I am so territorial, that I just felt like whatever I was gonna do I was gonna write it myself, it's my personal preference to always be in control of everything I do in life”. I have so much respect for artists that write their own songs. It shows they aren’t just an entertainer, that they have real talent.
I love Nicki Minaj’s story, that she writes her own songs and is an openly Christian woman. Minaj has a tattoo in Chinese characters that reads “上帝與你常在" (shàngdì yǔ nǐ cháng zài) on her left arm, meaning, "God is always with you”. I love “Super Bass”, too and I can’t wait to hear more from Nicki Minaj.
