Boston one of the best rock and roll bands of all time.
The best band ever
I do understand that the young readers here will think I have lost my mind. I am not writing about any one like Justin Bieber .This is about in my humble opinion one of the most talented bands in American history.
The name Boston Was chosen as a name because of the music background of the founding member Tom Scholz.
This man was a musical genius no doubt . The "band " had their first recording contract in 1976 with Epic Records after several rejections . Tom Scholz and Brad Delp were the only two actually signed on the recording contract. These two guys wrote all the music and performed 89% of the tracks with overdubbing. Now others like Prince have done this but the difference is Scholz and Delp did it in the early 70's none of the high tech gadgets we have now. Cassette tapes did not even exist until the early 70's
These guys did it with reel to reel machines and equipment we would laugh at now. This was slow pain staking work. One of the most famous bits of music to bear the bands name was :FORPLAY" it was ritten by Tom in 1969 before the band was formed.
I should also mention Jim Masdea although he did not join the band until 1983 did lay down the drum track on the demos for the first album.
The first album
1976 Title "Boston"
Although Tom and Brad were the driving force on the music it was necessary to have a band for live shows. Here are the original band members
1."More Than a Feeling"
2."Peace of Mind"
1."Rock and Roll Band"
3."Hitch a Ride"
4."Something About You"
5."Let Me Take You Home Tonight"
This album was on the charts for over 132 weeks.
Making Boston a big name very fast They were nominated for a Grammy award "Best New Artist" The band was also the first ever band to do there first appearance in New York at the Madison Square Garden.
I still listen to this album when I work out. It is as mp3's something no one had ever heard of back then. But I must also have worn out at least 10 cassette tapes of this album.
If your to young to know the band check out the video you may like it.
Just a start
The band did another album Don't Look Back (1978)
This one sold about 7 million copies. Just a little less than the first.
There is a lot more to the story The band did not make another album until 1986 The album and lead single "Amanda" both went to #1 on Billboard.
CBS sued Scholz for 60 million for not doing the third album earlier and lost.
March 9, 2007 Brad Delp was found dead in his bathroom the apparent cause suicide.
Many young people may not know this band but you should take a listen. . I hope this has wet your appetite .
