Can you really get free satellite television on your pc?

Updated on August 3, 2010

I have worked in the electronics business for a long time so I always keep an eye out for new technology. I have recently being hearing a lot about television services that allow you to watch satellite tv from your desktop computer, laptop, and HD television with no monthly charge. This combines my two favorite things electronics and saving money. So I decided to look into it to find out if you can really get free tv or free satellite tv to your pc.

Unfortunately what I found through Google was a number of companies advertising their services, some Hubpages and Squidoo lenses advertising free satellite on your pc services, but not a lot of information on how and why it works.

Free Satellite TV on your PC is a Scam

After further digging through claims and advertisement this is what I have found. It is a scam. You pay between $20 and $50 for a software program that claims that you are going to receive access to between 2,000 and 4,000 channels of television directly to your pc. That’s thousands more than cable TV. They claim you will get dozens of hard to find international channels, as well as all the best premium, movie, sports, news, and music programming. Unlike traditional satellite television, you don’t need to worry about expensive equipment or heavy satellite dishes. Essentially you are getting free satellite tv on your pc.

What you really get is a list of websites streaming free television programming. I am not talking things like Showtime and HBO, I am talking about mostly international programming and television streaming you can find through search engines like Google. Everything on their “program” is already freely available. All you have to do is go to the station website and choose the program you want to watch. For example if you go to Discovery.com they have many shows that have already aired and can be replayed on your pc. If you can not find it on the channels site I can guarantee you that you are not going to get it by purchasing one of these Satellite for PC or free television programming software packages.

These are the programs I found to stay away from:

WorldTVonPC.com

SateliteTV for PC

LiveTVme.net

TV on PC Elite

PC Satellite TV

SatelliteDirect.tv ….. and or any of the derivatives of any of those.

I apologize to those affiliates that are promoting the product here and elsewhere. Most of you probably have not actually purchased the “software” and are just going by what their sites tell you. I am an affiliate marketer myself, but this is one of those things to stay away from.

On one last note, I have no control over the Google Ads. They are placed there by Google based on content, but if it's an ad trying to convince you to purchase the satellite on you pc services I highly advise you don't make the purchase, but it's obviously your decision to find out for yourself.

It is always nice to get the truth about some of the affiliate market stuff that is questionable. That is what ruins it for the market when people get scammed and lose trust. I checked you ads because they were all offering some kind of TV service...no free computer TV :)
