Catch the poetic exchange between two lovers in Ek Mulaqaat!

Updated on June 24, 2015

Ek Mulaqaat is an amazing story that depicts the encounter between two eminent poets. It displays multiple emotions like unfulfilled love, misunderstandings and regret. The theme of the whole play is to convey each message in the form of music. The magical poetry and serene music involved in this recital, attaches the whole crowd to the story like it’s their own. The story is set up on a wintry evening in Delhi. The play moves around a magical love story, one that was not realized earlier. The play has two lead characters, a man and a woman. The play starts as the woman is sitting alone on her terrace and the man comes to meet her unannounced. She is extremely happy to see him as the two then start talking about a life time they both spent without each other. The ‘what if’ questions are asked and other unanswered questions are addressed. The man had come there for a specific purpose though, which nobody knows. The play answers that question in it’s final bit.

The man in the play is portrayed by the legendary theater artist, Shekhar Suman. He started off his illustrious career with theater, close to 30 years back. He will now make his return to theater with this play. He is set to play the role of a celebrated Urdu poet Sahir Ludhianvi. The entire play is packed with literary references, nazms and poetry. It is a beautiful musical spectacle that is appreciated by all.

The woman in the play, Amrita Pritam is played by another celebrated theater artist, Deepti Naval. She sets the tone for the play by expressing her regrets. She gets a phone call from Mumbai and starts to wonder who it could be as she did not know anybody except for Sahir from Mumbai. Suddenly he appears on her terrace eventually making her wonder who called her from Mumbai. But the two, who were lovers earlier, have their recital anyway.

This is a very anticipated event. It is the first time both these legendary actors will be singing live on stage. Ek Mulaqaat debuted in London in August last year. It is expected to be performed in Mumbai next. Everyone is excited to see the encounter between two great Indian poets portrayed by two powerful and influential actors. People are waiting for the epic love story to unfold. Love is a very strong emotion that touches almost everyone’s heart. The play will be held at the Rang Sharda hall in Mumbai on 28th June 2015.
