Corpus Christi's Selena

Corpus Christi's Selena has impressed the media and the Tejano music industry has rattled since her loss in March nineteen ninety five and Corpus Christi, Texas since 1995 has lost not only their daughter to the musical tradegy of her death, but an icon that once dominated the music in and arounf this city of musical Tejano talent, which to this day misses the Selena that made this city big.

Corpus Christi's Selena Quintanilla-Perez whom passed suddenly in March thirty one, nineteen ninety five, was simply known to friends and fans around as Selena. This Mexican-American singer-composer, was named the top Latin artist of the eighties, and the, “Best Selling Latin artist of the decade” by Billboard magazine. Selena had to her multiple credits seven number one singles. In 1994 and 1995 her most successful singles were “Amor Prohibido” and “No Me Qaeda Mas”. The top  known top artist of Tejano music in her time and to this day forward. She is compared to the equivent of Madonna. Selena release her first album at age 12 called ,”Selena y Los Dinos”In 1987 Selena won Female Vocalist of the year at the Tejano Music Awards and received a Recording contract with EMI Records just a few years later. She was extremely popular in the 1990s not only with Spanish speaking sountries but her fanbase was worldwide up until her death. Then unfortunately her music has inspired new Tejano music and has mad actresses like J-Loe a superstar in her own right, because of the legacy of Selena.April 12th 1995 , former President George Bush  governor of Texas at this time, declared her birthday “Selena Day” in Texas.

Selena had such a large fanbase and from her death, had gained extreme popularity with mainstream music all over the world, and with the recent Movie in 1997 starring Jennifer Lopez as Selena , the movie of her trials and tribulations in the Tejano Music industry , produced not only Jennifer Lopez into a frenzy of new roles ,but the name of Selena hit every household.

Selena was from a poor family that had much love, and with her stardom moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she performed locally at theatres and venues throought the city and surrounding areas of Corpus Christi, Texas. She was an excellent student yet her father persuaded her to quit school in the 8th grade and move on with her music career and to produce and album, she eventually received her GED for high school on the road with her band. Selena released her third album in 1986 called,”Alpha”.

Though she had everything one could want as a musician, fame and fans alike, when she passed on her death made a wide impact on the world, with Major News coverage broke into commercials to say she had been murdered and a shocked Tejano world began soon after to keep her legacy alive. Alive they did, and she still lives in our hearts and memories with the Media in a frenzy Howard stern’s stupid remarks , even put him in trouble with the law finally and was issued a arrest warrant for his outlandish comments. People magazine did a commemorative issue on Selena, which sold at about one half million copies.

Selena was bequeathed a statue in Corpus Christi, Texas Called Mirador de la Flor which is a tourist attraction and was unveiled in 1997 where it still stands. There was a tribute concert in Reliant Stadium April 7th 2005 in Houston, Texas with tope name Musicians including GlriaEstefan, Pepe,Aguilar, Thalia Fey, and other stars in and around the Tejano star’s memory.

There those in the media that say Tejano Music is not even what it was when Selena was alive and has passed away as well, yet it has brought out starts and musicians as Beyoncé, Myra, Christina Aguilera, Shakira , and several other pop idols, so instead she had a rebirth of her music through those that may have not of been able , so Selena may rest in peace knowing how many have benefited from her presence and her death. You have to wonder if there really is a heaven on earth with how thisCorpus Christi's Selena,a young starlet, made the world a little bit closer ,even though the bad  happened, what a lady, no That wasCorpus Christi's Selena, The Lady that cared for others, and gave so much.
