Updated on November 15, 2010

Fellow hubbers and other readers, those of you who read my previous Hub, ” THE 60’S BEST BAND IN THE UPPER OHIO VALLEY-REUNION”, know I was in a band, The Darvons in the 1960’s. The reunion of all us old geezers finally occurred on Saturday, November 13, 2010 and a glorious day it was when my old buds and bandmates gathered at my house along with many of their children. I sure hope they all enjoyed themselves as much as I did because I had a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you imagine five old guys who haven’t played or been in the same place together since 1968 getting back together? Most of us don’t even own instruments anymore but that didn’t deter our fun and companionship and sharing those old memories of bygone days!!!!!!!!!! It was hard to believe we hadn’t been together just a day or two ago because we all just took to the conversation and fellowship of our love like the passage of 42 years had really never happened!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I previously told you I was a little anxious over planning such a momentous event because I just didn’t want to screw up our possible fun of reuniting but my fears were all in vain we all had a wonderful time at our reuniting.

Although the reunion itself was a smashing success my bumbling trying to get my house and yard presentable resembled an episode of The Three Stooges (or if you are too young to recall these slapstick comedy magicians just think of Adam Sandler). While cleaning the house everything that I touched to clean I either broke or made dirtier than before I touched it in the first place. I wished I could afford to hire it done but somehow I muddled through. I bought a set of pruning shears at Big Lots and attacked my shrubs with a vengeance and the result was wounded pride on my part as I fell in the tangled underbrush and lost my reading glasses but finally this caper became complete and the reunion was the next day and every chore was done!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Saturday at 11 AM the first Darvon to arrive was my cousin Chris Zumbrunnen (our bassist and his family) his wife Karen, his daughters Amy, and Heidi and his son Rob we greeted each other with a hug and all was heavenly. Next to arrive was Larry Adkins our drummer and then Ed Snodgrass our sax player and finally Jim (Beef) Clark our lead singer with his son Jason. Greetings, handshakes and hugs were exchanged all around and the conversations started then my neighbor and attorney Tom White who had been in a rival band came down and joined in the conversations for about 45 minutes. It was like we had never been away from one another for 42 hours much less 42 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then at noon my daughters Tracee and Jenny arrived with my grandchildren (Tracee’s brood Kacey, Parker, and Jake and Jen’s tribe Dakotah and Kamron). Tracee’s husband Ikie came at first to help her carrying the massive amount of food the she and Jen had prepared for our culinary orgy. The gourmet grub included world famous taco dip to die for and delicious cream of potato soup along with a chicken dip along with snacks of potato chips and nacho scoops and a pumpkin cake and various beverages. The initial long range weather forecast cast a pall over the date of the festivities as possible rain was predicted but it turned out to be a warm and sunny late fall day!!!!!

The conversations and recollections that began at 11 AM and never paused or faltered until around 4 PM were priceless but details are being withheld due to the fact that in most cases the statute of limitations has yet to run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We’ll all be back together again on a regular basis at the suggestion of Jim “Beef” Clark were going to have breakfast, lunch or just coffee on a monthly basis. The Lord only knows we may actually beg borrow or steal instruments and make some music together once again some day in the future. Stranger things have happened but not by much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To think this event all started out by my finally deciding to have a 44 year old tape converted to a CD and sharing the magical music of the Darvons with my old friends and bandmates make me convinced I was born with and Angel on my shoulder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to once again be the most blessed man on the face of the Earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have this final set of observations to make on the boys who formed the Darvons and the men who remain to this day Darvons forever. We worked hard, we practiced endlessly, we played hard together and we came to love each other and I could feel that love has endured over the years and we are now a band who once made music but now we are a band of brothers bonded by love for time and eternity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 1998 Ed made some studio tracts on his sax and I'll share them with all who ask and I believe you will enjoy them immensely. Just let me know by email the format you desire.

In cases like this, time can be somewhat brought to a standstill. Great memories and fun. It really sounds like you enjoyed it immensely. You guys really should try to play again...that would be fantastic! WB

Love your last sentence. We should ALL go after the World instead of waiting for it to come to us! What a piece of good philosophy!

I have wondered the same thing myself maybe a million times and that's why I had the tape made onto a CD in the first place. I got tired of waiting for the World to come to me so I went out after the World myself!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the strangest experience after the reunion it felt like it had happened a week ago and that's a new experience for me.

I'm not sure when future recordings will occur but check back and we'll offer free CDs just like we offer Ed'd CD with this hub.

Thank you for your kind comment.

I find myself wishing I could go back to my past for an afternoon as you seem to have gone back to yours. What a joyous day you must have had, recapturing the moments and rekindling the friendships. THIS story is very precious.
