June 20th, Latest updates, Dallas TNT Wednesday 8/9C

Last night June 13, 2012, was the premiere of the continuation of Dallas. The cast is careful to correct people that claim it is the Dallas Remake because it starts where Dallas left off and featured some of the same actors. Dallas was one of the longest running TV dramas, second only to Gun Smoke and Greys Anatomy.

Last nights continuation left me trying to recall if the original Dallas, airing twenty years earlier, from 1978 to 1991, was filled with as much suspense, backstabbing, and double crossing? Will we again be left with a cliffhanger at the end of the ten episodes? If so I predict it will be who is the father of Christopher, Bobbie's adopted son.

Dallas was the biggest cliffhanger of all time in 1980 leaving the world hanging for six grueling months wondering “Who shot JR”? They actually filmed eight different people shooting JR and even JR himself (Larry Hagman) didn’t know who shot JR. On the night of the reveal some businesses and theaters actually closed.

The Cast

One of the questions you probably have is what returning actors can we expect to see on the Dallas continuation? The returning cast members from the original series that the audience saw last night was JR Ewing the character everyone loves to hate (played by Larry Hagman), Sue Allen Ewing (played by Linda Grey), and Bobby Ewing (played by Patrick Duffy). Another original returning cast memeber that will appear in a later series is (Charlene Tiltonas) Lucy Ewing.

Bobby Ewing’s wife and son are former faces from Desperate House Wives. You may recall Gabriel's young handsome gardener played by Jesse Metcalfe, who now plays Christopher Ewing. Bobby's new wife, Ann Ewing is played by Brenda Strong also from Desperate House Wives.

June 20th, Second Episode

The show episode began with a father son outing of JR and John Ross getting straight edge shaves in a posh mans spa. JR shares a story about his relationship with Jock. JR told that he had asked for a pony when he was eight years old and Jock had told him that when he had the money he would be happy to sell him one. JR asked John Ross if he had planned to cut him out of two billion gallons of oil? John Ross confessed that he had. JR told him that he didn’t blame him and he was forgiven. JR admitted that when John Ross was young and needed a father he had been to busy chasing women that he didn't love and making deals that didn't amount to anything. He said that he planned to make it up to John Ross now by teaching him everything that he knows about the oil business. They embrace and continue talking.

John Ross tells his dad about Labell’s blackmailing demanding two million dollars or he will tell Bobby everything. JR gives John Ross an angle to work Labell by telling him that Labell has a soft spot for his son that was driving drunk and killed an innocent woman. He tells John Ross to find the witness that saw the accident.

Rebecca and Ann are shooting at targets when Rebecca's brother Tommy pulls up and offers to drive his sister back to her house. Tommy asks Rebecca why she hasn't provided him with any information on Christopher's research. He then gives her a device to attach to Christopher's computer that will spy on his research.

JR and John Ross meet up with Marta Del Sol and her contacts. The contact offered two billion dollar advancement to buy into the oil boom. What appeared to be a mob orchestrated group forewarned that any slow down in production or interference would be unacceptable.

JR spoke privately with the woman pretending to be Marta Del Sol and told her he forgave her for trying to screw him over once but, told her if she was wise she wouldn't want to do it again.

Bobby and Ann meet with a doctor after surgery that gives a promising update on his cancer. Bobby now tells Ann that he will call off the sale of Southfork because he feels confident that he will be around to look after things. Ann also urges Bobby to tell Christopher.

Bobby answers a phone call from JR’s doctor who urges Bobby to let JR come home to speed up his recovery. Ann says it might be nice to have JR around and Bobby says it will be like homing a rattlesnake. JR and John Ross are speaking to the man they promised a steak and a pretty blond to thanking him for calling and pretending to be Dr. Hurst.

Christopher is working with Elena when they figure out how to make his idea work. They are embracing one another when they are interrupted by the phone ringing. Elena had been invited to lunch by Rebecca.

JR Shows up with his bags at Southfork and walks into a meeting with Bobby and Cliff Barnes who is interested in investing. JR says, “I thought I smelled brim stone and Crazy. Time has been no friend to that face”. Bobby assures JR that he had already turned Cliff’s offer down.

Elena and Rebecca have lunch and Rebecca explains that since Christopher has found out that he was adopted the he feels the need to earn his dads love and that is why his patent is so important to him. Ewings’ Don’t fail she tells.

knock on the door comes at Rebecca and Christopher house. The man at the door announces that he is a friend of Cliff Barnes and Cliff has extended an invitation to dinner. After dinner Cliff announces opening a brief case full of money that he would like to invest one million dollars into Christopher's patent. Christopher insists that his uncle Cliff isn’t trying to help him rather this is about screwing the Ewings’. Cliff warns Christopher not to let the Ewings’ destroy him the way the did Christopher's mother, Pam.

Ann walks in on JR going through family journals. JR is commenting on how Bobby was always Ms. Eli’s favorite. Ann said Ms. Elli always told her that she didn’t stand a chance with JR as Jock had snatched him up immediately and started teaching him about oil.

JR lets John Ross know that he has been able to get his hands on books with all Ms. Eli’s dirty secrets.

Tommy confronts Rebecca again asking why she hasn’t instilled the device onto Christopher's computer.

JR, Bobby and Ann are all gathered in the kitchen when John Ross storms in saying that he knows that Ms. Eli was in an institution and will use this in his injunction. JR puts on a scene with him accusing him of stealing the journal and slapping him.

Christopher and Bobby have a conversation and the cancer is disclosed. Christopher runs into Elena when leaving and shares his fathers secret and she begins to console him. They end up in each others arms again. Tommy is hiding in the bushes and taking pictures of them embracing.

Once Christopher gets home he tells Rebecca about his father and that Elena had helped him through it when he bumped into her. He says he now know what is important and wants to make sure Rebecca know how much he loves her every day until she dies. He also said he wants them to go stay at Southfork for awhile until it is sold.

John Ross meets with the private investigator to find out about the witness in the Labells automobile homicide. The Private investigator says that the witness had died ten years earlier. But, he had found out who had sent Elena the email. Rebecca Sutter.

Dallas June 13 show details

The scene is set with Christopher Ewing, who has been working on a patent to extract methane from the sea bed. He is planning to reclaim the Ewing name with his invention making Ewing alternative energies "the next Exon". Christopher is to be married very soon to Rebecca (Julie Gonzalo) who’s parents died in a plane crash when she was just twelve. The only family she has is a brother named Tommy. Rebecca had worked to put herself through law school.

Christopher's cousin John Ross Ewing III (Josh Henderson), is romantically involved with Elena Ramos (Jordana Brewster), the daughter of the Ewing’s cook. They embrace and kiss when they bring in a oil drilling team that hits what's estimated to be a 200 million gallons of oil on the South Fork ranch. John Ross III swears Elena to keep the oil find from the rest of the Ewings.

Bobby Ewing has secrets of his own. On his birthday he went to the doctor and discovered that he had terminal cancer. He told the doctor not to tell this information to anyone.

The cousins and their female companions gathered to celebrate Bobby's birthday with dinner. A love triangle begins to be unveiled when Carmen Ramos, the Ewing cook, wishes Christopher happiness with his up coming marriage to Rebecca but adds that he would have been happier with her daughter Elena. Now in place of Jock, Bobby sits at the head of the dinner table. Christopher mentions that Rebecca’s bridesmaid will not be unable make it to the wedding. John Ross III speaks up volunteering Elena to be her attendant. Elena notably is uncomfortable.

Bobby announces his intentions to sell Southfork. Bobby urges John Ross to visit his father JR, who is suffering from clinical depression, while he still can. He tells that last time he had visited JR didn’t look well and was not coherent. John Ross III acts as though he has resentment for his father and has no desire to visit.

Bobby discovers the oil drilling on the property and comes with the sheriff and has John Ross served with a court order sustaining any more drilling. Bobby asks the drilling crew to leave. Bobby argues that Mrs. Eli , his mother, had left him as the beneficiary saying she never wanted drilling on the land. Bobby promised to uphold her wishes. John Ross claimed he had a right to drill because his name was Ewing. John Ross tells Christopher that Bobby is not his father and that his real father sold him at birth.

John Ross III is enraged and has Bobby served with an injunction to overturn Mr. Eli’s wishes. The papers claim that Ms. Eli was mentally incompetent and therefore unable to make sound decisions.

John Ross went see JR. Even though he believed that JR could not hear him he starts to rant about Bobby and his adopted son, Christopher, and the huge amount of money he stood to lose by not drilling. To John Ross’s disbelief his father JR starts to speak saying, “Bobby is a fool!” JR then said they would have some catching up to do and that he forgave John Ross for not visiting. JR continues saying that Bobby has a week spot for this Christopher boy that isn’t even a Ewing.

The mention of so much money and a war with Bobby helps JR instantly recovered from his depression and became very alert. He told John Ross that court is the for the amateurs and week of heart and that this was personal. He planed to regain what was their rightful birthright.

Christopher is delivered news that his team in china had created an earth quake by trying to extract the methane from the sea bed. Meanwhile John Ross is fearful that he will never be able to drill for oil on Southfork because Bobby is planning to sell to a conservatory to be used as a park. This sale is motivated by Bobby desire to help Christopher with his patent for his project.

Trying to find a way to prevent the sale, John Ross asks Elena, saying she was once close with Christopher, to try to figure out what is going on with his patent. He tells her that Christopher threw her away like trash and convinces her to spy on Christopher.

Elena does go to visit Christopher they talk about growing up together and she learns about the tremors set off by his project. He questions why she is there and tells her Rebecca, his soon to be wife, is the best person he knows. When John Ross questions Elena about her findings she claims she discovered nothing!

Bobby woke by pain in the middle of the night. Anna, his wife, got up to get him some water and discovered an intruder. She grabbed a riffle threatening the intruder that she doesn’t miss at any distance. The burglar ran out of the house. After the law arrived she stumbled across a prescription bottle belonging to Bobby. The next day she looked up the medication on the computer and discoverd that he had cancer.

Bobby and Marta Del Sol, the daughter of a man named the second wealthiest man according to Forbes Magazine, flew above the property talking about her purchasing the lands as a conservative and turning it into a park. Bobby pushes his hands against himself to stop the pain, while assuring that his nephews allegations would not hold up the transaction.

Ann stood in a beautiful dress clinging to Bobby's picture while fighting back tears. She then walks out the door to greet guests. She was introduced to Ms. Del Sol and then to Tommy, Rebecca’s brother. Bobby saw John Ross at the Wedding and walked up to him and warned him that he would not be allowed to ruin Christopher’s wedding.

John Ross goes up to speak with his mother and explains the situation. Sue Allen assures him that she will do what it takes to get South Fork back for John Ross saying she is one his side.

John now has the information that he had the burglar steal. John tells Christopher that he has prove that the gas he was trying to patent was unstable and causes earthquakes. He told Christopher that he was going to expose him for the fraud he was by telling his uncle Bobby.

Christopher assumes that Elena had given John Ross the information and confronted her. She slaped him saying she didn’t do it and if he wanted to see a liar to look in the mirror. He now scolded her about running off to Mexico with John Ross while he waited for her to show up for a date. He told her he had feared that she was dead and called hospitals looking for her. She told him she would not have gone to Mexico if he hadn’t sent her the email saying they were two different people from two different worlds and that he wouldn’t be meeting her for a date, the whole thing had been a mistake. She said it made her feel like she wasn’t good enough. He begged her to never think that again and assured her that he didn’t send the email.

Now knowing that Christopher hadn’t sent the email, Elena still had to stand up for Rebecca while she and Christopher exchange vows. After the wedding Elena goes to John Ross and tells him she knows that he sent the email. He denies it and throws back at her that she would not be with him if she hadn’t gotten the email, she loved Christopher and would be with him.

After the bitter ending with Elena, John Ross showed up very drunk at his dads to find Marta Del Sol lounging comfortably with her dad. John Ross asks if Bobby knew she was their. JR claims she has been working for him all along saying, “You didn’t think I’d put all my oil in one barrel did you?”

While out horseback riding, Ann finds Bobby and asks him when he had planned on telling her about the cancer. He assures her that it was a mild case and he would be in and out of the hospital quickly. He also argued this being the wrong time to tell Christopher.

While Ann is back at the stable putting away her horse tack, Timothy, Christophers, now brother-in-law, appears and she offers for him to stay and work for them.

Rebecca urges Christopher to put off the honeymoon to Tahiti and go speak with his dad about not selling South Fork. He tell his dad about his problems with the extraction. But, says that he knows that he will be able to figure out how to extract it safely and provide the world with alternative energies.

Timothy now goes into his sister Rebecca bragging about Ann Ewing offering him a job. He is delighted that what they have been planning for two years is finally taking place. He warns her not to get cold feet and get to comfortable being Rebecca Ewing.

John Ross now meets up with Marta Del Sol. He tells her there is nothing like lust and asks her is she remembers Vegas. He is plotting with her against Bobby and JR. She offers him a drink that she has slipped something in. The light fixture contains a camera. John Ross wakes asking what happened and gets ill.

JR now fly's to the home of Marta Del Sol. He is greeted by her father and starts talking about the deal he has made with his daughter for her to purchase the property and then sell it back to him in thirty days. Her father insists that he has no idea what JR is speaking about. He then calls Marta to the room. To JR’s Ewings dismay this is not the girl that had been posing as Marta.

Next Week June 28th

How will Christopher respond to Rebecca's telling him the truth?

Dallas Remake Questions?

Like the cliffhanger that left us wondering who shot JR we are now left with questions.

What has Rebecca , Christopher's wife, and her brother Tommy been planning for two years?

Who’s is the woman posing as Marta Del Sol's and who is pullling her strings or is she working on her own agenda?

Who has Mitch Label in their pocket?

When will Ann and Christopher find out about Bobby’s terminal cancer or will he make an instant recovery like his brother JR did?

What tricks does Sue Allen have up her sleeve?

Who sent Elena the mysterious email that lead her to believe that she wasn’t good enough for Christopher and lead her to end up in the arms of John Ross?

Will Christopher end up with his true love Elena Ramos?

What will Sue Allen and JR’s relationship entail?

Why did the writers choose for Christopher to be an adopted son? Will the big reveal be the identity of his father?

Who will have the more remarkable underhanded scheme to obtain South fork ranch?

The show was originally scheduled to return for a third season in the summer, but it has been moved to February. I'm so happy. Love those Ewings.

How funny that they have revived this. Everything seems to be a remake or a revival these days. One thing I note immediately is how the new actors look more like models and less like real people than the originals. Bizarre.

      Hey Allan!

What would you think of Christian and young JR, trading places?? Maybe Christian will become the bad boy of South Fork while JR (jr.) tries to soften his style to win Elena over????

Congrats to Dallas ! I think all the double dealing and deceit is captivating ! Just like the good old days ! Very clever how they're diminishing the part of the old Dallas characters and increasing the face time of the new ones . Poor JR is just meeeelting away !!!! Miss Ellie will be happy that JR's eyebrows are looking snazzy !

Miss Ollie This comment made me giggle! You are correct and I have many friends in Dallas and they do know how to decorate. And the beginning of the last episode looked to begin in a posh mans spa maybe the staff should have timed up those eyebrows. LOL

Loving the new show, but find myself a little distracted!! Does anybody wonder why South Fork is so poorly decorated? It looks so ordinary to me for such a well to do family!! Also, I have an urge to jump into the screen to trim JR's eyebrows!!!! What's up with that?????

Did anyone notice that JR Ewing was never shown with any other actor when they were both facing the camera in the first two episodes ? I think he is filming himself at another location due to poor health. Any comments ? Larry Hagman does have cancer and a liver transplant.

Nope, this is not a remake. JR seems to be up to his old tricks that even a stay at the "rest home" hasn't cured. And his son is following right along. He may even be worse. He certainly has no scruples about to much of anything. Not sure I will be following closely, but I will be watching occasionally. Well done and you do get a lot of traffic from TV reviews!

@Angela Brummer...This is no remake, for certain.

It's a continuation of the doings of the now older Ewing gang. John Ross and Christopher are "grown-ups" and we quickly learn they have learned the art of backstabbing at the feet of the leader of the clan, J.R.

But I think Christopher might be good at heart and won over to be more like his agreeable and less than nasty adopted father, Bobby, the peacemaker.

At any rate, Dallas of yesteryear was a study in human nature, and the new Dallas promises the same, in different characters and in its renewal of past characters. The tension among the family members is too thick to be cut with a sharpened butcher knife.

Good luck, all! And watch out for Tommy!

I wish they would put back on the old Mary Tyler Moore Show.. "Oh, Mr. Grant!" Of course it isn't drama, but I'd take it over Dallas anyday! That show had an incredible comedic cast. I still have my Very Mary pin, but don't tell anyone.

I don?t watch TV anymore, but your review has sparked a little flame. My ex-husband loved Dallas and watched it faithfully. John Ross will no doubt replace JR as the evil villain. Dallas was such a great emotional drama . . . and I can see it making a comeback. Thanks for sharing your interesting synopsis.

Wonderful review Angela. I, too, was a fan or the original and just didn't have the heart in it to watch the updated version. Some things are better left the way they were.

      Intersting write

I was a fan of the original Dallas. I wasn't a fan of last nights premiere. It was like watching paint dry. I watched for 20 minutes and then gave up. Further proof that we just shouldn't go backwards. Your review is great!:)

Very comprehensive coverage of the first show. Yes, it is Dallas, all the intrigue and hatred within a rich family. Seems it is going to follow the old Dallas but is definitely not a remake. Miss Ellie would certainly recognize her family!

      Voted up and interesting.

Great review Angela, I remember Dallas well and had no idea a new one was in the making! It probably will not hit our tv for ages, that seems to be the way it works. More intrigue no doubt , let's hope this is not a dream!!

Wait a sec. Last night was June 13 2012 but not July 13 2012. Am I reading the future hub?

Anyway, love to read TV review article. You are awesome as usual.
