Daniel Tosh : Joke About Rape

Updated on July 14, 2012

Dark Humor

Daniel Tosh recently came under fire recently because he made a joke about rape, and someone didn't like it. So instead of taking her rage outside, along with her money, she did something so much better, she heckled the comedian. Now Daniel Tosh is a comedian known for his sensitivity. On his show Tosh.0 he very often has heartwarming insights into how we can all be more kind to each other. I mean below, there is a link about how we can exercise racial tolerance in a sensitive way.

What started the whole thing was Daniel asked his audience what they wanted to talk about, someone said rape, accoring to the club owner. What Daniel Tosh said was that rape could be funny. Then a woman in the audience said "Actually, rape jokes are never funny". and was heckling him. So he responded "wouldn't it be funny if 5 guys started raping her right now!" And there are mixed stories as to what happens next, she said that she left immediately, and the owner said that he didn't get a complaint about it until the end of the set.

Here is a link to an article on it, if you want to do more research on what happened yourself. It should easily give you the kind of feel that people with nothing better to do than be offended about stuff have about this.

If I was there I would have laughed. Cause you know if it started to happen, people would probably stop it. Me included. I would go so far as to say Daniel too, if for no ther reason than nothing hurts ticket sales like the reputation of the chance of actually getting raped at his shows.

Do you think Daniel is being treated properly because of his controversial joke?

What did you expect?

Come on now. This woman went to see DANIEL TOSH. It is not like if you live in America, and are the type to go to a comedy club, you don't know who he is. He has a TV show, he is all over the freaking internet. I be willing to bet this woman was the type to go to see George Carlin and complain about the profanity.

Point is Daniel Tosh isn't know for how he politically correct talks about things. And when it came time to respond to this whole mess, he said he was sincerly sorry and "the point i was making before i was heckled is there are awful things in the world but you can still make jokes about them" Cause if you can laugh at it, it doesn't have as much power over you.

Not the first time

It's not the first time this has happened either, watch this video, and notice that the audience if laughing their asses off.

This bit with Dave Chapelle happened at the exact same club Daniel Tosh was in

The daniel tosh one and the chapelle one are owned by viacom and the laughfactory, part of youtubes terms of service is you allow anyone to be able to embed on their site, its not something they have to ask for permission for, the george carlin one, well if you do enough george carlin searches, and read up on how he feels about this kind of stuff, he would have no problem with someone using his persona to strengthen the idea of free speech and people not being offended over something like this, I will take my chances.

Never heard of the guy...sorry. Since I wasn't there, I can't really comment except to say that we are all responsible for what comes out of our mouths, so we should watch what we say! Nicely done hub.

By the way, be careful about using videos without proper permissions. Just did a bunch of research on this here on Hub Pages and it seems you need written permission and proof that the poster created the video and owns it, otherwise you could have big problems.

He handled it. He shouldn't have had to was my point. She wasn't a victim, and I am sure he is profiting off of this, I guess she really showed him.

I agree with you that she shouldn't have gone to see him if this is what he's known for and there was a possibility of her being offended. Having said that, if people are going to say controversial things, they should rightly or wrongly expect a backlash. It's ridiculous to think you should be able to say whatever you want and people shouldn't challenge you and condemn what you say. It's the nature of the beast. If he can't handle backlash he needs to be careful about what he says. It's that simple. There are no victims here.

Great hub. I absolutely love Daniel Tosh and I think he's hilarious. I think you made good points. He's a comedian, he makes jokes, and Daniel Tosh is the last person to censor himself just because he's afraid of how someone will react (he's made that clear plenty of times). He's offensive to everyone about everything and I think that's what makes him great. I also like the comedians you cited about rape jokes. Plenty of comedians have made these sort of jokes, their good because sometimes its best to make light of something that's dark because you don't want the dark to run your life.
