David Bowie: Dead.
Singer, actor, musician, pioneer of all things new and icon of alternative rock David Bowie aka David Jones is dead. His son film director Duncan Jones confirmed on Twitter that Bowie who had been battling cancer for 18 months had passed peacefully at the age of 69 surrounded by the love of his family.
His new album 'Blackstar' was released on Friday and was given a warm welcome by music critics and Bowie said on Twitter he would be off line for a while as he was battling cancer but sadly now its obvious with his departure from this Earth he will be off line for good now.
The album contains seven new songs and it is in a way ironic that with David Bowie's passing this album should have been just released and artists when they are no longer with us seem to see a surge in their recordings old and new and I suspect David Bowie like Elvis, Michael Jackson, etc will be no different.
Bowie leaves wife Iman and daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones as well as the above mentioned film directing son.
Celebs like Madonna, Kanye West, Brian Eno and Iggy Pop have all paid their tributes to him and his producer Tony Visconti says the latest album from Bowie 'Blackstar' will be his parting gift to the world.
Always one on his own and never going with the flow from hits to 'Space Oddity' and 'Lets Dance' Bowie was like a chameleon always trying something new and re - inventing himself in whatever decade he found himself in.
Midge Ure part founder of Band Aid and singer/guitarist with Ultravox also paid tribute to him as others will no doubt do.
In Brixton, London birthplace of David Bowie besides a mural dedicated to the 'Man Who Fell To Earth' floral tributes were laid.
BBC Arts Editor Will Gompertz described Bowie as a Picasso and said the star is up there with the Beatles, Stones and Elvis. What better tribute can there be than that.
