Days of our Lives: Renee Jones Quits Acting, Lexie Carver to Die!

Updated on August 8, 2013

Renee Jones announced last month that she is to quit acting and her role as Lexie carver on Days of our Lives.

Raised in Georgia in the country, the actress has said she is looking to return to a quieter country lifestyle and leave Hollywood behind. Of course when quizzed about a possible return to acting the actress did say that perhaps if the right role came up…

Renee Jones on Days of our Lives

That role, however, is not going to be, Lexie Carver on Days of our Lives who Jones has portrayed for over 20 years. Lexie Carver is slated to die from the brain tumor she was diagnosed with a few weeks ago. (Though with a father like Stefano DiMera death shouldn't stop a comeback should Jones wish it so!)

Lexie Carver was not Renee Jone's first role on Days of our Lives, though. Renee Jones also played police secretary Nikki Wade in the early 80’s. And who did young Nikki Wade have a crush on? None other than Lexie Brooks’ future husband Abe Carver.

Lexie Carver

Lexie ’s life on Days of our Lives has been tumultuous as she juggled her relationship with Abe, whose career has entailed various roles in law enforcement and city politics (until recently Abe was the Mayor of Salem) and her family – the notorious DiMera family who appear at the top of the Salems’ most wanted list.

Lexie was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Lexie refused treatment when she learned she had shorter to live than first anticipated. Abe was devastated to learn about his wife’s illness, as were EJ and Stefano, Lexie’s brother and father.

The focus now is on Lexie’s final days, with the dying mother making DVD’s to be played to her autistic son as he grows up so he doesn’t forget his mother. The news of Lexie’s condition is taken hard by her many friends and family.

The scene however has been set for a revenge storyline after Lexie’s death with the revelation that Lexie’s condition is likely the result of exposure to noxious gas while being held captive in the tunnels beneath Salem. Her captor? None other than Andre DiMera, her father’s loose cannon right hand man and Tony DiMera’s identical cousin.

Stefano should blame himself for his daughter’s terminal illness, and there is no doubt that Abe will. But what will he do in his grief? Will Abe be one of many Salemites that pick up a gun and turn in on Stefano DiMera? And if so, will he be the one to pull the trigger?

Renee Jones’ final air date on Days of our Lives

Renee Jone’s final airdate on Days of our Lives is June 20, 2012 when she appears as a spirit. Tune in for what is sure to be a tear-jerker as a well loved character says goodbye for the final time.

Update: Lexie Carver will be seen on our screens until June 28, 2012.

@Aidan njara. This really was a sad but well written departure. I'm glad Lexie was given a proper on screen sendoff and didn't just disappear "posting a letter" as other characters have.
