"I Am the Lord your God you shall have no other gods before Me." we all know this verse, yet we continue to worship man from Elvis to the now late Michael Jackson. “False gods, interpreted literally, is a phrase meaning a cult image or object considered idolatrous from the perspective of the speaker."

In the time of Moses when they fled and went the mount to receive God's Law, "Moses (Hebrew) was the Hebrew liberator, prophet and lawgiver, who according to the Bible freed the Hebrew slaves from Egypt, and at Mount Sinai, provided the them with the Mosaic Law, or Torah, including the Ten Commandment” While Moses was in the mount for 40 days and 40 nights, despite being granted their freedom and witnessing the miracles, the Hebrew people became restless and began to doubt God and worship "The Golden Calf". Which asked the question why do we worship idols after witnessing God Works the Sun, Trees, Mountains, etc? However, it seems that is not enough for man, we constantly look for idols to worship, and exalt them: Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Princess Diane, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and John Lennon Farrah Fawcett to name a few.

In many respects they were considered "gods" among men, with thousand upon thousands websites, tributes and cult-like followings, but they are all dead, their lives are over, and only the one true God will determine where they will spend eternity. When we try to make gods from man the result is the same they die (most of the time tragically). If we continue to put faith in the "gods" of the world we will always be empty, lost and disappointed, and it will only lead to death. We also exalt our processions car, house and money. We seem to forget none of these things last. I just went to a funeral of a family member and we had to clean her house filled jewelry, money and all the possessions a man could want, but when she died those things were just things, it's often said: "You can't take it with you", that true for everything, but salvation. In God's eyes, we are all the same sinner in need of his grace, love and forgiveness. We must place our faith in the Jesus who is the only God, who has triumphed over death. His resurrection symbolizes the eternal life that is granted to all who believe in Him. It also symbolizes the complete verification of all that Jesus preached and taught during His three-year ministry. If He had not risen from the dead, if He had merely died and not been resurrected, He would have been considered just another teacher or Rabbi. However, His resurrection changed all that and gave final and irrefutable proof that He was really the Son of God and that He had conquered death once and for all.

What do all the "worldly" icons of this world have in common, they are all dead, buried, gone. What have they really done for you? Nothing. As we grieve the lost, another talented performer does not seek comfort from the cover of your favorite magazine whose job is to produce a new "god" every week. However, know that true comfort only comes from the Comforter, our living God. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus died for our sins so that to could live forever, we will not find that kind of selfless, sacrificial love anywhere else. Jesus Christ's tomb is empty! He lives and seated at the right hand of the One True God! He will never leave us or forsake us, and that is worthy our praise and worship.

"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."
"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive."

I loved it! Just foud it when I saw a picture of Lady Diana. I'm from europe too and she was something in our younger day's. I loved your HUB because it is so true!!! I rememmber when I gave away all my books. 2 rooms of books. I was a book addicted! never followed any idol but made book my idols. When I met the Lord, one of the first things the Lord wanted from me was my time. But my time was given to my When I walked with the Lord I volunteerly gave away all my books. I put myself on a book diet for 2 years. just one book a week. (used to be 5-10 books a week) So I started to read in english to make the books last. Later on I swiched to Spanish to make the book last longer. But God used those lenguanges too because today I'm a missionary wife in training to be fulltime missionary unto the Latin world. God is good. Love. I became a fan.

I found this Hub of yours when reading one by another Hubber about music. I saw John Lennon's pic among the iodols and I can speak from experience that people do iodolize these entertainers. I have always been a Beatles fan and followed Lennon's solo career as well. I remember when he was shot, I sat on my bed and cried for hours.

I took the fanship of these guys too-far and their music was all I ever had on my mind. When I came to the Lord at age-19 I burned every rock album by every group I had and all my posters of them. I looked at it as a sacrifice to the Lord to show he was the most important thing in my life.

I came back to listening to some of the old rock but now it's in-perspective. I see these people as ordinary like you and I with talents in certain areas but still very human with all the flaws.

I know of no Christians who don't enjoy some worldly entertainment like television, sports (I'm a big fan of UFC fighting) or even hobbies like fishing. What we have to be careful-of, is not allowing these things to become vices to us that take our attention away from the Lord and especially that they don't become idols.

While I don't believe these things always cause people to break fellowship with God, they can at the least "choke God's Word in our lives" causing it to be unfruitful. Jesus said that it's not just the deceitfulness of riches but also the "cares of this world" and the "lusts of other things" that can do this.

As you pointed-out, Jesus is far more than an iodol - he is our risen Lord! Thanks for the inspiring Hub!

Amen, sister. I thought about the multitudes of people that mourned Michael Jackson's death, not only those at the funeral, but those all over the world. Makes me wonder if there are as many followers of Christ out there? Blessed are they who have not seen, and yet believe, the Lord says.

God gave each of these people an awesome talent, and instead of using it to glorify our Lord, their Creator, they used it to glorify SELF and to give man an idol to worship. What is worship? Praise, honor, glory, even money, a following, knowing more about the idols than the Bible!

I also wrote a hub about the God of gods, and yet this is such a truthful hub about how man idolizes man, or even God's creation more than the Creator! God bless you as you continue to minister exactly what He's moved you to say!

I enjoyed keep up the good work. All the gods of this world will have to stand before the one and true living God who hold death and life in his hand.
