Are you suffering from Mad Men Withdrawal?

See results

Has there been a void in your life? Is there a show missing in your weekly line up? Do you find yourself talking about the 1960's as if you lived through them, even though you haven't? Do you crave a three martini lunch at the Oyster Bar? or perhaps a stiff drink at work? a Manhattan? old fashion? or a Tom Collins? Do you compare every man in a suit to Don Draper? or Roger Sterling? Does every blond remind you of Betty? every voluptuous red head remind you of Joan? Do you talk advertising even though your not in advertising? Don Draper said "if you don't like what's being said, change the conversation" but do you always change the conversation to Mad Men?

If you answered yest to one or more of these questions your in Mad Men withdrawal! Don't worry, although it can be contagious, it is not fatal (at least now that a fifth season is finally in production!). As a fan of Mad Men, you have the right to be going through Mad Men withdrawal. As of Monday October 17, 2011 at 10 P.M. we have gone an entire year without a new episode of Mad Men!! Normally this time of year is when the AMC drama is winding up it's season and our fix for the year, although not completely quenched, is satisfied. This year however has been torture for many fans. Due to contract issues and negotiations, season 5 of Mad Men has been delayed. Normally production would have begun in April and the show would have aired in July or August. Back in March the negotiations were so bad that the chance Mad Men might not even return to television was a real threat and put many fans into uncontrollable sweats. By April they finally came to an agreement but the damage had already been done. Due to the delay production didn't start to recently this fall, which means Mad Men is not returning to TV until 2012! That is at least a year and half wait, at least 14 months without Mad Men, and the entire calender year of 2011 included no new Mad Men episodes at all! The issues that delayed the show were brought about by three parties, AMC, Lionsgate and creator Matthew Weiner. The issues were all about budget and advertising space, which is ironic because the show is about the men on Madison ave in an Advertising company. One of the demands that I thought was hilarious was the demand by AMC for more product placement. Really product placement on a show about advertising? a show where the audience is smart enough to recognize product placement and likely to reject it? Some things just don't make sense.

However the audience, like children watching their parents file for divorce but then get back together, we are scarred but happy things are turning out alright. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Filming has begun for Season 5, which will air sometime in early 2012. The bright side is we will have a great entertaining, sexy, and intelligent show to cure us of our winter blues! So although it feels painful the wait will be worth it. So to help you get through the next few months and Mad Men Withdrawal, re watch all the seasons on DVD or on AMC every Sunday morning. Have that occasional three martini lunch (but don't end up like Roger, hope the elevators work!). Buy yourself a 60's inspired outfit (they're in this season) or have a Mad Men inspired Halloween Party or Dinner Party! The point is you are not suffering alone, just hang in there! Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce will be there in 2012, even if its still in the 60's)! Like Don Draper said "I have a life. And it only goes in one direction. Forward." so lets move on from the drama and look forward to Season 5, it will be here before you know it!

i have only recently become a Mad Men addict so I'm hungry for discussion. thanks for a coolHub.

Having experienced NYC in the late 60s and getting a taste of the biz myself, I find it totally enthralling . can't wait for season six! I don't know what's worse, having to wait for the next episode or not getting to bed before 2am because I have to watch the next DVD. cheers

I see you are just as enthusiastic about Mad Men as I am. I am lucky that I did not have to wait as long for a new episode because I watched all the seasons on Netflix. I finished with season four last month. Yet, I am still anxiously awaiting Season 5!. This is an interesting and informative hub. Thanks!
