Kickstart project to raise funds
The Prodigal Daughter is the story of the life of undocumented Mabel Valdiviezo in the United States and her reconciliation with her family in Peru. One can say that her life was one of inspiration and determination, a will to survive against all odds. In 2009 she got her green card, which allowed her to live in the U.S. legally, enabling her to return to her home in Peru. Since then she has been making connections, looking for funds, speaking to immigration and social inclusion organizations so as to finish her documentary. Recently Mabel launched a campaign to raise money: "https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/324277195/prodigal-daughter-a-documentary-and-reconciliation" and she is asking for $30,000.

Coordinator for documentary film: Prodigal Daughter
This is an hour long, personal documentary that tells a story with universal resonance about the high price paid by families that are forcibly separated, emotionally torn and financially destroyed because of their determination to immigrate in pursuit of a better life.
With your help, we will be a step closer to finish the film and bring it to community centres, high schools and colleges to open up dialogue about family reunification among immigrant communities in the U.S. and Latin America.
Prodigal daughter story
A filmmaker’s reconciliation with her Peruvian family after sixteen years as an undocumented immigrant in California.
Fleeing Peru in the 1990’s to escape political persecution, Mabel Valdiviezo endures traumatizing experiences and cultural isolation while her family suffers at home.
Years later, about to become a U.S. citizen, Mabel seeks to reunite with her parents while battling a life threatening illness. Would Mabel’s growing spirit of forgiveness, a new acceptance of responsibility, and courage to face her past let her recover love and bring healing to herself and her family. A documentary that offers a woman’s perspective on the immigrant narrative, Prodigal Daughter evokes universal emotions while exploring intimate relationships.
