Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog
Appearing On A Computer Near You!
In the summer of 2008, Joss Whedon (the creator of Firefly and The Avengers) released his latest project: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. This was the first ever superhero musical, featuring an evil villain, his arch-nemesis, a pretty girl, with some sweet ballads and belting anthems. Most significantly, this mini-epic was released on the Internet.
Why did Joss do this?
Joss Whedon wrote this during the Hollywood writters strike of 2008, and filmed it in 6 days on a minimal budget and relying on the lots of family and friends and calling in many favours. Instead of be broadcast on the traditional medium of Television, this project was shown to millions around the world via the Internet.
"Whether this has any impact on the Internet is unclear to me. It will be something that hasn't been done. And although some people came up with a plan on how to monetize this right away, our first priority was to put this out. We do it for the fans, we do it as an advertisement for itself and for just this culture, this idea of people who are doing something smaller scale but hopefully in such a way they can reach a lot of people.

What is it?
This is a musical comedy in three parts, featuring the wannabe mad scientist Dr. Horrible bent on taking over the world (played by Neil Patrick Harris). There is also Penny (Felicia Day), the cute girl he really likes, and Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion) who keeps beating him up.
These three characters all get big numbers, from lyrical ballads to soaring comic anthems, written by Joss with his brother Jed. If you've seen the Buffy episode "Once More With Feeling", you'll already have an idea what it could be like.
When can I see it?
This show will be broadcast on television for the first time on October 9, 2012, airing at 9:00 pm on The CW.

Featuring the First Ever Musical Commentary
To quote the master plan: "We will put the complete short epic out on DVD - with the finest and bravest extras in all the land. We'll go into greater detail about that at Comiccon, but we're changing the face of Show Friendliness a second time with that crazy DVD".
A review of the DVD by NewTeeVee said: "As for special features, the centerpiece of the DVD is definitely Commentary! The Musical, a full-length commentary track that is a completely original musical in its own right. Commentary! is actually a fun, behind-the-scenes glimpse of the production, heavily laced with inside jokes set to music very nearly as good as that in the actual production."

Animated Maquette of Dr. Horrible - Freeze Ray. Tell your friends.
It seems only fitting that the first authorized and fully-licensed Dr. Horrible Animated Maquette is of the man with the PhD in Horribleness himself. Cast in professional-grade resin and painted by hand, Dr. Horrible is pictured in his moment of triumph, holding his Freeze Ray aloft in one hand and shaking his fist at the world.
As with all QMx animated maquettes, Dr. Horrible comes with many screen-accurate details, such as his goggles, the medical symbol on his smock and, of course, the aforementioned deanimation gun. He stands over six inches tall - nine, if you include his weapon.

Once More, With Feeling - from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The episode Once More, With Feeling was a breakthrough for television. It was a musical where the cast did all their own singing and Joss Whedon wrote all the music and lyrics. It was an amazing achievement and the Audio CD is also brilliant, featuring all the songs from the episode plus some scores and suites from other episodes:
Firefly / Serenity - a Sci-Fi Adventure by Joss Whedon
Written by Joss Whedon, and staring Nathan Fillion, Firefly is a Western in Space. Captain Malcolm Reynolds (Nathan Fillion) leads his compact crew on a quest for survival - they are renegades with an amoral agenda, taking any job that pays well. Unfortunately, this series was canceled after only 11 episodes were aired, but it soon picked up a cult following amongst it's fans, and all 14 episodes can be got on DVD. In 2005, the movie Serenity continued the story of the ship and its crew.
