Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest: Have People Become More Stupid?

I am a front-end developer by profession, but I enjoy writing articles about anything mysterious, interesting and fascinating.

Humans are by far the most intelligent species on Earth. We have grown a lot through the ages and made lots of progress in every field. But this doesn’t mean that all people in the world are smart. Many are left behind on the evolutionary ladder. These dumb people take stupidity to a whole new level.

Locating Countries on the Map:

Jimmy Kimmel, an American talk show host, and his team came up with an interesting experiment. They scoured the streets to ask strangers deceptively easy questions to find out how smart they are. In one such instance, they asked people if they could locate any country on the world map.

You may think that this is an easy task. However, many people failed to do it. Geography is not essential for human survival. But being unable to locate their own country is a bit sad. The people who were part of this experiment even finished college which raises even more questions. Were these people just nervous in front of the camera or were they just dumb?

Miss South Carolina:

Caitlin Upton became the Miss South Carolina in the 2006 state pageant. During the Miss Teen USA contest of 2007, she was asked a question on why one-fifth of Americans could not locate the US on the world map. The answer she provided was hilarious.

She mentioned that the Education provided in America was not as good as in South Africa or Iraq. And she even went on to say that the education provided for Americans should help Asian countries. Her weird answer was hopefully due to the stress of being on stage. But it still became famous for all the wrong reasons.

A Rajasekaran, more popularly known as Nithyanantha is an Advaita Vedanta Hindu self-styled godman from India. He is well known in India but has followers from around the world with Gurukulas and ashrams in many countries. There are many controversies involving Nithyananda including a sex tape with an actress and sexual harassment allegations.

Despite all this negative publicity, there are a large number of followers for Nithyanantha. He delivers some weird speeches about science and religion. He claims to be able to determine the reincarnation and births of people. He has also said that he can make cows talk. Despite all these hilarious claims, there are even dumber people out there willing to follow his teachings! You can find a whole lot of funny videos about him on youtube.

Flat Earth Society:

The Flat Earth Society is a group of people who believe that the Earth is flat and not round. At first glance, this may seem too stupid to be true. However, many people around the world genuinely believe that the Earth is flat. I am pretty sure Pythagoras would be pretty pissed at them.

According to the Flat-Earthers, the world is flat and surrounded by an ice wall on all sides. These ice walls hold the oceans back. Gravity works by the motion of the Earth around the Sun similar to how we are pushed back when a car accelerates. They also claim that NASA is lying to us and that we have not gone to outer space. All photographs of Earth are also false.

The Kardashians:

“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” is a reality TV show. It focuses on the personal and professional lives of the Kardashian-Jenner blended family. The reason why many people are angry with the Kardashians is that they do not have any talent or acting skills. They are ordinary people who suddenly got famous due to scandals.

However, the dumb people here are not the Kardashians but the people who made them famous. Despite having many negative reviews, the show has been a great success and gone on for 15 seasons! There is a trend for making stupid people rich. The Kardashians merely used this to their advantage. They are the smart ones and the ones watching it are the fools.

Donating Money for Youngest Millionaire:

This donation campaign could very well be the dumbest thing we have ever done. People are donating money to Kylie Jenner so that she could become the youngest female Billionaire. She is ranked at 900 million dollars from her cosmetic company and needs another 100m to reach the Billionaire status. So a group of people decided to start a campaign to make her a Billionaire.

The GoFundMe campaign was set up by Instagram star Josh Ostrovsky. The purpose of this campaign is to collect donations from people. These donations would then be used to make Kylie a Billionaire. Although this may sound stupid, lots of people are donating their money. The campaign description reads, "I don't want to live in a world where Kylie Jenner doesn't have a billion dollars.” No wonder aliens don't visit us.
