Eleven Songs That Contain Twenty of Something
Charlie Daniels Once Thought Twenty Would Get Him Out Of Trouble
If you add the two twenties that define the new year, even the most mathematically -challenged of us would get forty. Be it through a nap or Biblical rains or a proverbial pole, the number forty makes for a nice sum.
It even opens the biggest hit for the classic rock band Grand Funk, as the title track for their album We're An American Band. "Out on the road for forty days" drummer Don Brewer says. "Last night in Little Rock out me in a haze. "
We do not, however, have to wait two decades to find the number of a year somewhere with in a song. In fact, quite a few tunes include the number twenty somewhere in the lyrics, and here are eleven of the most well-known. The reference must not go beyond twenty, therefore omitting selections such as "25 or Six to Four" by Chicago or Paul Simon mentioning his age of 22 in the hit "Leaves That Are Green."
