Rihanna's Rock Star 101: Mind Control, Dehumanization and Vodou
In this blog here, I am going to share with you my thoughts on Rihanna's music video, "Rock Star 101 (featuring Slash). There are a lot of people out there who have reached the same conclusions I have regarding the system of control that we are currently living under, who have analyzed the symbolism of the music industry and other media outlets in great detail, and have already published a great wealth of information on these topics. I'll share some of their websites at the end for anyone who wants to learn more. It is not my plan to continue in this vein for much longer than a few blogs before I get back to writing about other things.
That said, the reason I am doing this, apart from finding it interesting, is that I feel compelled to call attention to certain facts about the media and its celebrities. These celebrities, far from being the hardworking, do you it yourself, go getters of the American Dream, are merely products that have been intentionally created by the empire (the control system and the entities behind it) to be damaging to the human spirit, in the interest of furthering and maintaining their control. These media products are essentially weapons in the war on human consciousness. The faces you see on T.V. and movies are constructs, they were created for your consumption. When people idolize celebrities like Rihanna, they are not idolizing a real person but a media creation. The true biographies of these people, the ones that include every detail of every sordid thing they agreed to or were forced to do in order to be where they are, will never be written or given to the public. (at least not explicitly - however, for those with the eyes to see, much is revealed through symbols, metaphor, and double meanings)
First, a little biographical information that the public is allowed to
see (thanks CIA controlled wikipedia). "Rihanna" was born Robyn Rihanna
Fenty in the country of Barbados in 1988. Despite the troubles of
growing up with a crack addicted father, she made it into the recording
business at 16, after being "recruited" by American producer Evan
Rogers, who apparently went to Barbados on vacation and happened to
meet Rihanna through a "friend." Rogers apparently liked what he saw in
the sixteen year old, and had her move to the United States and live in his house. From there, Rihanna was able to record a few singles, get signed by Def Jam Records and rise to "Rock Star" status, and make the above music video.
Let's start with a few obvious facts about the video. What we have here is a horribly annoying song, paired with images of the young "artist" Rihanna who spends much of the video dancing very much as a stripper would without taking off the entirety of her clothes. Clearly, the main object of the video is to tantalize. The choreography and the camera work are all about drawing the viewer's attention to certain, ahem, attributes. At surface value, this is what its all about. Rihanna is basically a stripper with a semi-decent voice. That is really all you need to get by in the music industry these days, that, and a willingness to sell your soul, to degrade yourself publicly and privately, in order to get ahead. Unfortunately, due to her young age, it seems that Rihanna never had much choice in the matter, at 16 she was already bought and paid for.
The video has a BDSM look throughout, it is dark, black and white, and we see Rihanna don a variety of costumes which contain chains, horns, tight leather pants, a kinky reptile outfit, and a police hat. She spends much of the video crawling around on the ground and assuming animal poses. She is degraded and dehumanized throughout.

Apart from appealing to the lowest aspects of our selves, our animalistic drives for sexual lust, violence, and domination, this music video also tells a story, if one takes the time to think critically. The story it tells us, is of the initiation process that Rihanna has gone through in order to make it, in order to be a "Rock Star." It is the story of how she (willingly or unwillingly) sold her body and her soul, in order to get "up in the club."
When we first see Rihanna, she is attired in nothing but chains, and her face is painted black, and she is crawling on the ground. She is a slave. Chains are what slaves wear, and the most pervasive cultural stereotype of a slave is that they are of dark complexion, and most likely of african descent. (Rihanna's home country Barbados is a "former" slave colony)
In the next scene, we see Rihanna leaned up against a wall, in the back of the "club." Now, "club" is one of those interesting words that have more than one meaning. One may assume she is referring to a dance club, but club can also refer to "an association of two or more people united by a common interest or goal," or something you beat someone over the head with. Considering the fact that she never dances with or near another human being in this video, I think its clear that the esoteric meaning is second definition, and that the word was chosen intentionally for its multiple meanings. Once we accept Rihanna isn't just singing about going to a dance club, but about joining a highly selective organization, the rest of the video and lyrics make a lot more sense.

In the next few scenes we follow Rihanna through various scenarios which demonstrate the dehumanization and mind control processes necessary for one to "make it to the top".
"Mind control you say?"
Mind control is the act of psychologically reprogramming a person for a specific purpose. It can be used to target large groups of people and sway their conscious and unconscious attitudes in one direction or another. Our current mass media was created largely for this purpose, it is perhaps the most important branch of government, (a word which if you take it apart govern mente, means governance of the mind) even though it attempts to appear as a totally separate entity.
The mind control effect that this video is intended to have on the collective psyche is the degradation and dehumanization of the female, the cheapening of sexuality to its lower expressions as lust, violence, and dominance, and to further promote the entirely artificial and materialistic idea of celebrity hood as the ultimate mode of human existence. This serves to isolate human beings from each other, to promote selfish and materialistic action, and encourage us to strive for an artificial idea of success at the expense of others and our own, true individual well being. (Got my middle finger up, I don't really give a fuck.)
With a certain amount of time and effort, mind control can be performed on an individual to such a degree that they can be programmed to perform any task at all without even knowing they had done so, (RFK assassin Sirhan Sirhan is but one example) including tasks which the majority of human beings would certainly rather not do, because they would be too horrifying, traumatic, degrading, or immoral. (Research MK ULTRA and Project MONARCH, and see youtube links at bottom in the "for more information section") Think of the number of celebrities who become stricken with mysterious mental breakdowns in their lives, or the number that regularly disappear for a time to attend "therapy" or "rehab". This is often said to be the result of a breakdown of mental programming. (The bold verses at left are a clear reference to this phenomenon)
What sort of conditioning might Rihanna have gone through, besides voice and dance, to become an international superstar after (at 16 years old) living with Evan Rogers for one year, then immediately getting signed by Jay-Z at Def Jam and rocketing to super stardom? Who was it that taught her to crawl around on the floor like an animal, and yet so seductively? Wikipedia tells us she was "going to school" when she moved in with Evans, though I have yet to find any further information about this, least of all the name of the "school".
Its not, however, crucial to this discussion that one accept this claim, as I will only reference it occasionally. For instance, in the above photograph, we see Rihanna wearing skin tight leopard print pants. According to the mind control lore, this is a reference to "Kitty programming," or the creation of the "sex kitten" alter personality. Think of how often you have seen this or that celebrity sex object take on feline attributes. Now imagine that, through trauma-based mind control, a person may take on the alternate personality that is both cat like and highly sexual. How much do you think a man like Bill Clinton might pay to have such a person around to satisfy his sexual desires?
Here we see another instance of dehumanization, with Rihanna dressed as and acting like a reptile. This could be a reference to a type of programming Rihanna has gone through, or it could be a sly nod to all the "reptilian" hunting conspiracy theorists out there.
There is also a part of the brain known as the "R Complex" (R for Reptile, because we share that part of the brain with reptiles) that is mostly concerned with lust, violence, and hierarchy. It is quite apparent, that this music video is targeting that specific part of the brain, which is responsible for our most animalistic thought processes. Rihanna, by taking on this role, is demonstrating quite clearly that she is merely a dehumanized sex object - there is no human personality present, she is nothing more than a mindless animal with an attractive body.
In the next series of degrading images, we see Rihanna lying on a pile of broken beer bottles and other phallic objects, in a black leather bondage outfit with a veil over her face. Her lower body has been transformed into a musical instrument, with guitar or harp like strings attached to her legs, immobilizing her.
Here, the viewer is being once again clearly informed as to Rihanna's status as a human being. She is an instrument, a tool. She is there to be played by the forces that control her, that bind her, that manipulate her for their own purposes. The veil over her face indicates that she has no actual identity, or that her identity is irrelevant to her function.
Here we see Rihanna making a certain hand sign, while sticking out her tongue in a highly suggestive fashion.
This particular hand sign can be found in just about every music video or photo shoot that any high ranking celebrity that you can think of has been involved in. At this point I can only guess at its real meaning, or the meaning that has been assigned to it by the "initiated". I am certain that it does not mean "Rock On!" or "Heavy Metal!," or "vagina" in this particular instance. My best guess at this time is that it is a reference to a certain horned deity, and there are so many - Cernunnos, Pan, Baphomet, Moloch, and of course Satan. (I don't really think the priests of the empire worship a deity called "Satan," though I may imply it jokingly from time to time. Although, in some fashion, I consider anything that emphasizes the material and the selfish over the conscious and altruistic to be evil, or satanic, and this video definitely falls into that category. Truth is, I don't know what they worship, that is part of what I am trying to figure out. It sure as hell isn't Jesus, Buddha, or Muhammad). One thing is for sure, and that is that imagery of horned beasts and humans, and humans making the horned sign, play a major role in music video imagery these days.
This is the point in the video where things get really esoteric. The character played by Rihanna, after having gone through a variety of degrading experiences, now is ready to be ritualistically inducted into the higher echelons of her occult society.
She enters into a circle, and draws an occult symbol of some kind, its difficult to determine which from the video.(At first I thought it was a unicursal hexagram but am not sure). In occult magical practices, one typically enters a circle, and draws a symbol in it (and in the video we see the symbol at various stages of completion) to initiate contact with an immaterial entity, the nature of the symbol being one determining factor in what type of entity the practitioner may wish to summon.

The ritual scene is the most visually disorienting in the video, expressing the disorienting effects of mind control programming and occult ritualistic practices, which are said to often go hand in hand together, and in which the victim may be drugged, electroshocked, tortured, raped, or disoriented in other ways. I can only speculate as to whether Rihanna ever had to actually go through a ritual such as this, or whether its just a metaphor for the selling of one's soul, or allowing an ethereal entity to take possession of her body, which appears to happen in the scenes below.
The Lyrics to the right indicate that she has gone through some sort of transformative process, some sort of bargain that will mean in exchange for no longer having to "wait till tomorrow," (for fame and fortune I assume) she will get it now and live her entire life in "the night." (Typical Robert Johnson, deal with the devil type stuff.)
After the ritual scene, Rihanna appears as her final incarnation, the ultimate Rock Star with a black guitar (remember "all I need now is a black guitar," evidently she made it), looking very much like famous "rock star" Slash, who apparently lent his guitar playing skills to the making of this video.
Now, Slash is easily one of the most recognizable guitar players in history, with his long frizzy hair, black top hat, sunglasses, but what perhaps many people don't know, is that Slash borrowed his style from an entity (whether it be "physical," "spiritual", "symbolic,""mythological,""archetypal," etc) known to the haitian vodou (according to wikipedia) as Baron Samedi. Here's their description of him:
"He is usually depicted with a top hat, black tuxedo, dark glasses, and cotton plugs in the nostrils, as if to resemble a corpse dressed and prepared for burial in the Haitian style. He has a white, frequently skull-like face (or actually has a skull for a face) and speaks in a nasal voice. He is a sexual loa, frequently represented by phallic symbols and is noted for disruption, obscenity, debauchery, and having a particular fondness for tobacco and rum. Additionally, he is the loa of sex and resurrection, and in the latter capacity he is often called upon for healing by those near or approaching death, as it is only Baron who can accept an individual into the realm of the dead." This to me, is very interesting, for we now have Rihanna, as a "Rock Star," taking on an altered persona of a loa (or entity if you prefer) associated with both sex, debauchery, death, and rebirth. This video doesn't seem to focus too much on the healing or rebirth aspects of the Baron Samedi character, other than the possible "rebirth" of the initiation ritual, wherein the initiate Rihanna is reborn into her new status as Rock Star.
I think the final scene says a lot about the side of Baron Samedi, who seems to me to be capable of playing a positive or negative role in our multilayered reality, or both, that the creators of "Rock Star 101" are attempting to invoke. It is the Baron Samedi who ushers us to death, saying, come lie down in this grave that I've dug for you, we're going on a little trip. Interestingly, Samedi is french for Saturday, which is Saturn's Day - Saturn being a planet with interesting astrological implications of constriction, limitation, binding, etc.
The final scene is of Baron Semadi, Loa of sex, death, debauchery, and rebirth (into what I wonder?), dancing in front of mushroom cloud, which mainly just symbolizes death, but also (as sort of a stretch) sex and rebirth due to its mushroom appearance. (just think about it, what does a mushroom look like, what does it do).
Now, there are quite a large number of people in this world that believe we are approaching a sort of "end time," an intense period of the destruction of some forms of reality and the creation of others. I think this may be an accurate assertion, though vague in nature. Will it be good, will it be bad, will it lead to utter destruction or the birth of something much better, I will not postulate an opinion on these matters at this time.
It should be obvious that we are entering a period of enormous change, and as always we have the social engineers, the culture creators, to help sway our minds and herd us through whatever chaos is coming (or straight into that chaos, as may be the case). Apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic themes are incredibly common in media these days, from music videos to movies.
What the last scene of this video is telling us, is to keep on being lustful, debauched, violence craving hedonists until the bomb falls on our heads. Its telling us "its the end of the world, so do what you want." And of course, by what you want, they mean what they have attempted to program you to want, which is sex, drugs, rock and roll, mindless entertainment, money, glamor, all the attributes of selfish materialism and ignorance. Essentially what they are saying is "Rome is burning my friends, now go find yourself a fiddle (or black guitar) and play."
