Lesser known Famous Asian Actresses in Hollywood
4 Talented Asian Actresses not everyone knows about, yet.
There is not many Asian actresses that grace our stages. But when they do, they certainly captivate our audiences and are not easily forgotten. Some of the most recent films I have watched made me interested in discovering the lesser known Asian actresses.
Every now and then I will see one that really caught my eye, or amazed me with her talents. I remember the first time I saw The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise and Koyuki Kato. Her role was small, and she said very few things. But her role was passionate, believable, strong, and overall just well played. She continues to be one of my favorite asian actresses that never lets me down.
Here are a few talented women that I have recently seen and hope to see them again in some big blockbuster films or highly celebrated tv shows.
Kelly Hu started out with winning a Miss Teen USA pageant back in 1985. Since then she has starred in some big blockbuster movies like the Scorpion King, the Sentinel, X-men 2, and several other films going all the way back to Friday the 13th Jason Takes Manhattan back in 1989. She has been incredibly busy making appearances on top shows like Numb3rs, CSI, NCIS, and about about 20 other TV shows!
While Kelly Hu is best known for being Hawaiian, she is also of English, Chinese, and Filipino Heritage.
She recently broke sale records by being the cover girl on the popular magazine MAXIM. Considering Maxim mostly displays sexy women on the cover, its quiet amazing that a lesser know Asian Actress could do such a thing.
Yin Chang recently became famous by playing Nelly Yuki on the TV show Gossip Girl. Yin Chang is part Malaysian, Taiwanese, and Chinese which makes for a very cute mix. Growing up in New York she became quite the entrepreneur. Along with acting she also creates unique jewelry for her website LeliMelo.
Has also starred in Law and Order and Six Degrees.
One of my favorites. Koyuki was born and raised in Japan. Koyuki Kato has stared in several movies but she first became famous doing Japanese TV shows.
Her first big role was playing Taka in movie The Last Samurai co-Starring Tom Cruise. What a huge step for a lesser known Asian actress! The Last Samurai was her first international film and she played her part beautifully. She also does some major commercials in Japan for Panasonic.
Her most recent role was in the movie Blood:The Last Vampire playing the Arch Villain in a cute school girl out fit. If you enjoyed the Manga you will enjoy this movie!
At # 98 on MAXIM's 2006 annual Hottest 100, this South Korean/ New Yorker has gained some fame over the past 6 years with her aspiring role on the hit TV show Lost. She plays Sun-Hwa Kwon.
Yunjin has been on many late night shows like the David Letterman show, Jimmy Kimmel, and Conan O'Brian to boost her Asian actresses stardom.
Early on Yunjin Kim Stared in several Korean dramas. Most notably Ardor.
She also had a big breakthrough role in a Korean movie called Shiri. She plays a two sided role in the movie, a cute fish store owner, and a killer spy for the North Korean army. Its a good movie if you like the action spy flicks, I own the movie and enjoy it on occasion.
