Who Are These Famous Okies?

Well, they range from singer-songwriters to politicians to comedians. They also come from eras as far back as Indian Territory and as recent as today. Some of them are not as surprising as the others, but that just shows the diversity that can come out of this place that is primarily seen as a folk/country music state.

Musicians

We might as well begin with what we are known for, music.

  • Woody Guthrie
  • The All-American Rejects
  • Garth Brooks
  • Reba McEntire
  • Hanson
  • Ronnie Dunn
  • The Flaming Lips
  • Hinder
  • Toby Keith
  • Starlight Mints
  • Carrie Underwood
  • Blake Shelton

Okay, so most of those are country singers, but there are some other interesting genres in there. What is also interesting is that most of these people, who are still alive, still live here in Oklahoma. They can be seen at super markets, Thunder games and their wives' television shows.

  • Chuck Norris
  • Gary Busey
  • Kristin Chenoweth
  • Joan Crawford
  • Rue McClanahan
  • Brad Pitt
  • Will Rogers

See? A little more diverse and a little more interesting.

Of course none of these lists are complete, but these are some of the most well known athletes in America that come from Oklahoma.

Woody Guthrie's Song "Pretty Boy Floyd"

Outlaws

Yes, do not forget that Oklahoma is a part of the Old West and bred some of the roughest, toughest outlaws/gangsters in the U.S.

  • Pretty Boy Floyd
  • Belle Starr

Yeah, the list wasn't super long, but it was powerful, right?
