Clash Of The Titans Film Review

Clash of the Titans is a remake of that classic 70's movie with Ray Harryhausens stop motion special effects which were groundbreaking at the time, it tells the story of Perseus the son of Zeus who must defeat the Kraken which is a massive sea monster created by the God Hades and on Perseus' journey to find at first the witches who will tell him how to defeat the Kraken, but as we all know, it's Medusa's head that he needs to kill the Kraken.

This was a great remake with some neat nods to the original movie and I'm glad they mention and show bobo the clockwork owl but didn't actually have it feature in the movie, because that was an annoying thing for me as a kid, seeing that owl in a film that was supposed to be serious fantasy to have an owl with a bit of comedy, just took that part away from the film and nearly ruined it for me.

Of course the most notable mention is the special effects, from Medusa, to the Scorpions and then to the Kraken and the blockbuster spectacles that we know now are all computer generated imagery, but it would be nice if some movie studios would still do some stop motion animation an try and combine it with CGI to see what the result would be.

Starring Sam Worthington as Perseus, not a great actor, but he seems to get picked for good films and the good old fall back actor Liam Neeson as Zeus, with other star turns from Peter Postelthwaite (Who gets killed again....just like in Solomon Kane!) and Raiph Fiennes as Hades.

The story relies heavily on the original film, which is taken from the Greek legends of mythical beasts and that's the selling point of the movie, although there are some new bits that weren't in the first, so this isn't a straight remake, but you can tell the backbones of the original in there.

I did like this movie as it was a great mix of fantasy and because I've watched the original countless times and this film has always been at the back of my mind for film makers to update with a new film and here it is. best bit is the Kraken, although it doesn't last long, which is typical of a Hollywood film, but then if you think about it, anticipation is over rated!

      It is a good film and the special effects are great and some of the performances are good from some good actors.

      I think Hubby might enjoy this. He too has seen the original umpteen times
