Five Life Lessons From The Croods

Updated on March 26, 2013

1. Don't be afraid of change.

In the beginning of the movie, Grug always said that new is always bad. But at the end of the movie, he realized that there was so much more to new things than danger. Change is always inevitable. We will always have to experience it and encounter new things. The best we can do is to not be afraid of it. Being open to new things is the only way we will able to discover more about ourselves. Nothing's ever going to happen if you do not have the courage to leave your comfort zone. We have to be open to change and try out new things. Always keep in mind that not all change is for the worse. Some are for the better.

2. Be Curious

It is perfectly okay to have a lot of questions about a lot of things. Being curious will not always bring you harm. It is often important to let our minds wonder about certain things in life. This is the only way we ever get to discover possibilities. Never be afraid to ask why or what. Always use your mind to unlock new things in the world.

3. Follow your dreams.

Never ever let fear get in the way of your dreams. We all have things that scare us. As what they often say, never let fear paralyze you. Instead, let it motivate you. Like in Grug's case, the fear of the unknown and the new sometimes scare us. But we have to believe that there is something greater than fear. We have to believe that our dreams weigh more than our fear. Follow your dreams. Don't spend your life living on what-ifs. Instead, go and do something about them. It doesn't have to be a grand beginning. What matters is that you started.

4. Be Open-Minded

Nothing good will ever take place if you only listen to your own opinions. At the beginning of the movie, Grug only wanted everybody else to do the things he suggested. But at the end of the movie, he came to realize that he also needs other people's opinions. We have to learn to respect other people's voices even if they are not the same with our own. The world is a huge place and we will always meet people who think different thoughts from our own. But just because you think different thoughts doesn't mean that you shouldn't be friends. We must learn to be open-minded. In this way, both parties in the relationship experience growth and development.

5. Don't forget to say what's important.

One of the things we usually forget to do is to say what's important. We often forget to say "I love you" or "Thank you" to the people who deserve it the most. This is why often times, these people in our lives feel rejected or neglected by us. We don't have to say these things everyday. But we have to try to say them often enough so that they won't forget that they are important to you. So the next time you're in a rush, don't forget to tell people who are important to you the important things.
