Sasha Obama was born on June 10, 2001. Most people don't know that her real name is Natasha, and Sasha is the shortened form of that name. People found out her real name when President Barack Obamas filed his tax returns the first year he was in office and he entered her name as a dependent. Also, when Sasha got her first summer job at Nancy's, a seafood restaurant on the island of Martha's Vineyard, in the summer of 2016, she used her full name on the job application.

Sasha is the youngest daughter of the 44th United States President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. Sasha's older sister is Malia Obama who is a student at Harvard University.

The public first saw Sasha and her sister when their father was running for President of the United States in 2008. He won the election, and the Obamas were the first African American family to live in the White House. They were there for eight years.

Sasha's Background

Sasha was born at University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. When she was only four years old, her father became the Senator of Illinois in 2005. When she was seven years old, he became President of the United States in 2008.

Before moving to Washington, D.C. Sasha and Malia attended the University of Chicago Laboratory School, a private school in Chicago. When the family moved to Washington, D.C. the girls attended another private school, Sidwell Friends School. They began classes there on January 5, 2009. Sasha is a member of the volleyball, baskeball, and tennis teams. In her first season, Obama won the state championship with her sister.

When President Obama left office in 2016, Sasha was in the 10th grade. Not wanting to uproot her, the Obamas stayed in Washington so Sasha could finish her high school years there.

Now that Sasha has turned 17, she had one more year in high school, and the Obamas are still in D.C. After Sasha graduates next year, they might move back to Chicago where they still have a house.

Life in the White House

Sasha began living in the White House from the age of seven to the age of 15. She was the youngest child to live there since John F. Kennedy, Jr. lived there as a baby in 1961.

While in the White House, Sasha acted just like other kids growing up. She roller skated through the White House's East Room. She was allowed to invite friends over for slumber parties in her treehouse that was on the South Lawn while Secret Service agents stayed on the ground.

The youngest daughter of the 44th President of the United States is very fond of live music. She has attended many musical concerts. She also loves dancing. Just a few months before the "Purple Rain" singer Prince died, he called her up on stage and they danced together.

Back in April 2018, Sasha hung out with rapper Cardi B and her fiance Offset backstage at Washington, D.C.’s Broccoli City Festival at her last tour performance before she gives birth. Cardi B posted a photo on social media of the two of them together.

It is reported that in 2009, Sasha and Malia Obama joined a girl group named School Gyrls. Their three god sisters Kyra, Kara and Kayla Parker were also part of the group that had a few successful commercial recordings.

In the Public Eye

When the Obama girls were younger, their parents tried to keep them out of the spotlight. Now that former President Obama is out of office and the girls are older, they are no longer kept away from the public.

Sasha is very popular among her friends, and she has been called "America’s Sweetheart" because of her friendly nature. She is a role model for young girls. Because of her popularity, she has a very large following on social media with over 92.4 million followers on Instagram because teens relate to her and look up to her.

Sasha's Upbringing

Because of her Barack and Michelle's way of parenting, Sasha was brought up with rules just like other kids her age.

The New York Daily News reported that she isn't allowed to watch television or use the computer during the week unless it was for homework. She eats dinner with her family most evenings at 6:30. She has chores to do.

She also took piano lessons and enjoys going to the movies and to the mall with friends.

Yes, Louise. Sasha Obama turns 17 today. It is amazing that she was only seven at the time we first saw her as a little girl when her father became the 44th President of the United States.

I can't believe she's 17 already. I remember seeing her on TV as a little girl.
