Hall of Shame...

Updated on April 26, 2013
No Shoes and No Morals..
No Shoes and No Morals..

Lance Armstrong's betrayal did cost him,

Lost a nut while screwing 'The Tour',

Where cancer holds odds of being beaten,

A narcissist's NEVER been cured!

Way back to 'Shoeless Joe Jackson',

Throwing baseballs - AND games, doncha know.

Why liken talent with 'HERO'?

Seek veracity past the 'Big Show'!

Brett Farve disrespected his wife and his kids,

Mailed his wee-wee to women unasked,

Once a cocky Grid Iron hero,

Now retired, shamed - and unmasked!

I Forgive You Michael..
I Forgive You Michael..
Image, Baby..
Image, Baby..

Kobe Bryant's a Basketball wonder,

Sexy wife and adorable daughter.

Decided to rape a powerless maid,

Couldn't keep it zipped-up like he ought'er!

Michael Vick was a number ONE draft choice,

The American Dream DOES exist!

Pitting dog against dog to kill or be killed,

Left his legions of fans truly PISSED!

Tiger Woods had the world by the tail,

Presenting an image so bright,

Eighteen holes was just the beginning,

His putter kept swinging all night!

Lend Mike an Ear..
Lend Mike an Ear..
Partners in Crime..
Partners in Crime..

Lend an ear to the pugilist Tyson,

Once second to none in his sport.

He refused to take NO for an answer,

Six years was his sentence in court!

Let's throw in Penn State's Joe Paterno,

As power and greed were his choice.

Sandusky continued to rape little boys,

Yet Joe Pa would give them no voice!

For those who may not be familiar,

The moral is yet to be had:

Your 'HERO' who's scoring those touchdowns?

Could well be some kids DEAD BEAT DAD!

Ya know?

@Rolly: Hello sweet friend! Ah, Rolly - according to the experts - we've raised a generation of narcissists - andi use the term 'raised' loosely! jodi arias? Narcissist! most mass shooters? narcissists! they say that while narcissism isn't looked yet upon like schizophrenia, borderline personality, or psychosis - it will be in the VERY NEAR FUTURE..

      Oh, goody, eh?

Very, very good! Its one thing to be entertained, but be careful who you choose as a role model. Just because some one is extremely talented does not mean that applies to their character. I don't think it would be good to be constantly skeptical or paranoid, but I would definitely think twice before jumping on a band wagon. Great piece, Leslie!

To my Canadian friend let me just add that I have a collection of Montreal Expos scale model cars (never out of their boxes) when they moved and became the Washington Nationals. Also, ever since I was a kid I have also been a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.

In the words of our friend, Sarah Palin, "You betcha" I'm a baseball fan, through and through, but it is the New York Yankees that rule supreme!

if you'd like - i can make a public disclaimer from the top of the empire state building?

Caaaaaaause - Mr. Rose is not 'OUT' of the poem - unless you really, really want me t..

I apologize if I come off as a "Gloomy Gus" but I need to stand up for Pete Rose. Pete Rose was a legitimate athlete and a superstar. He does not deserve to be lumped in with known cheats because Mr. Rose was never a cheat at his sport. Pete Rose gambled and to that I say ""Big Whoop!"

After all these years, this is our first disagreement Ms. L., but any real baseball enthusiast will stand firm with me regarding the stellar baseball career of one of the finest.

    • Nellieanna profile image

You've set me thinking, my dear, with your clear thinking, as you always do, you rascal!! - You've even inspired a poem:

      Adulation can poison and corrupt,

      While we ordinary folks

Stand amazed when we see it!

With all they've got going, we wonder,

Why oh why would they not want to be it?

They cause their images to get tarnished,

But still they can mislead, disrupt

Young fans learning their own ways

From those in touted famous' places

      Of invincible, high-flung power.

      But wait!

Our community example may have set

These fallen heroes on their downfalls.

When principles became fuzzy and divisible.

They were once young, too; so who can say?

Somehow they were failed along their way.

And not a single one of us is invisible.

We ordinary folks create our own examples,

Samples of how one should behave.

We demonstrate to kids who follow.

Who may try to emulate our selves

From our examples,- even if they're hollow,

LIke our saying one thing and doing another.

So- let's just stop to contemplate our selves

To be sure they're what they should be,

That they'e all they ought and could be.

We may be for someone impressionable,

Just any kid, or a kid sister or a brother,

A shining super hero too, - without the Ivory Tower!

It seem we can't turn around anymore without some new scandal about our 'heroes'. Look at what's happening now to the Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius?

When did it become about the money? When did it become about 'Me-Me-Me-'?What happened to the ideals and standards that heroes are supposed to embody? I don't understand the world anymore. Who am I kidding? I've never understood it.

Instead they get greedy and think because of their status they can do just as they please and get away with it with no come-backs. We have the same sort of thing here with the rugby players. Heros who think nothing can touch them, but they soon lose the respect of their fans.

You have reminded us, Leslie, in a very clever way of the power these athletes have and how some use it to take advantage of others. Disgraceful!

You always shoot straight from the hip

A hubber would give you no lip

      You showed how these guys

      Don't see with their eyes

But follow a path they should skip!

Whoa, Leslie, you hit a home run (no pun) and knocked it out of the park with this one! It's all about power . . . and how much power, greed and so on . . . does one need to still not be happy with the great lives they have been given and strived for with their natural born gifts, to where it is just NEVER enough, even to the point of perversion? It just boggles one's mind WHY they just do not stop and think, using their brain for a change . . . the one in their heads. I guess fame and fortune and the like can become an addiction, i.e., as Tiger Woods couldn't seem to help himself, despite already having a gorgeous wife . . . with no self control, certainly comes a high price to pay, hopefully?

LOVE IT! I really hate the celebrity superstar status that gets attached to sports players. The public seems to think that a guy that is great at sports is a hero, role model, celebrity, etc. No they are not. They are a guy that is good at sports. The heros should be THE GOOD ONES. Like the coach of the Tar Heels and the players that sent my little bro (recently passed from cystic fibrosis) photos and autographs and free tickets to his first and only game. And the guys in the Buffalo Bills that sent him things during his final months - and I am not talking about mass produced junk, I am talking personal letters, etc. Those are good guys. The ones that do charity work because they want to. The ones that get educationsa nd raise families...

THANK YOU for having the ovaries to put this out there.

      Love ya!

Voted up and shared. There are so many in sports, just like in all walks of life that try to cheat the system. I don't understand it because I was always taught to play fair and square. today's standards, maybe that makes me square.

You know I love ya Ms. L., but I do take exception with one of the people you called out. I'm a sports fan and one of my favorite sports is baseball. Just an hour up the road from my house is Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Pete Rose NEVER bet against his team and he NEVER took any drugs/steroids to improve his game. Rose was one of the best athletes baseball has ever seen and for him to be denied acceptance into the Hall of Fame makes me sick. Sorry to disagree with you on this one, my friend, but when it comes to Pete Rose I become defensive. He never threw a game and he never took drugs. He gambled and because of that the powers to be are refusing to let him into the prestigious Hall of Fame? To me it doesn't make sense.

You've done it once again. A serious message written in a semi-serious yet entertaining way. Yet another awesome hub written by an amazing woman. Voted up and happy to share it with others.

The Mighty continue to fall daily in pro sports, and maybe that's as it should be. Ego vs humility in a continual battle for our psyche, and some lessons need to be learned the hard way.

Well done but then I expect nothing less from you.
