Two years later in 2013 at the 36th annual Japan Academy Prize, Nikaido won two awards for her roles in Himizu and Lesson of the Evil for Newcomer of the Year. It would be at this same awards ceremony that former AKB48 members Yuko Oshima and Atsuko Maeda would win awards for their acting work. Nikaido has developed a reputation for speaking her mind in public. She said that she would like to lose her reputation for being strange and eccentric. She says that being normal is the best thing but that it is hard to do.
