Gothic Music II

Updated on December 12, 2016

This style is a kind of transition, and in its pure form, there are extremely rare, but their sound is different from other styles of electronic gothic music. Its roots are lost somewhere in the late 90s. Historically, difficult to determine who exactly was the pioneer of the style, but in the mid-2000s style has definitely been formed within certain limits. Album of the German team managed by Chris Paul (Chris Pohl), who a few years before this album formed Blutengel, Terminal Choice 2003 "Menschenbrecher" has become the most significant and characteristic of this area. Three years later he released the album Metallspurhunde another German project with a similar sound.

This dance rhythms, close to the modern gothic rock, but with electronic beats and deduced from one of the leading roles guitar. German project Project Pitchfork listeners remembered primarily as the representative electrogoth style, although the bulk of his work is made in very different styles. However, all of the major hits were written in electrogoth style. Also, this style often uses another German project past many styles of dark scenes, - In Strict Confidence. In the US, the main representative of this trend is appearing in 1999, Ego Likeness. At this point, as I said, the style in its purest form is virtually absent, but many musicians use its elements in order to diversify his music.

Back To The USSR:

  • Russia: Magik Brite, Requiem For FM, No Existence, Cold Design, Highgate, DreamVeil, Slide Show
  • Ukraine: [Doc.Tod] (+ gothic industrial), Audi Sile (+ gothic industrial), Gray / Scale (+ synthpop)
  • Belarus: Prophetic Dream (early material)

Gothic Electro

Gothic electro in the modern gothic scene is the most popular style in the format clubs around the world. The main impetus to the development gave him the aforementioned Chris Paul (Chris Pohl) in Terminal Choice early works that Kris later postponed to another project, only played gothic electro. It was called Seelenkrank. After two full-length albums the project was canceled, and Chris Paul continued similar work in the framework of Blutengel, the first album which resembled Seelenkrank, but the music went into a sweet and easy sound.

Gothic electro dance is a powerful electronic beats of electro-industrial area with a romantic and melancholic synth-goth. If we compare with the synth-goth gothic electro, synth-goth it goes to his head, and gothic electro feet as previously described old-school EBM and dark electro, respectively. Now, many groups of different directions using gothic electro in your music.

Classic gothic electro sound can be heard in the works of the German project Infernosounds. In the early 2000s, the fashion on a combination of gothic electro and EBM efforts of two German projects Mechanical Moth and Cephalgy. Now this feature is widely used by many musicians around the world. Among the most prominent is worth mentioning the Dutch Schwarzblut, Psy'Aviah Belgians, Australians Razorfade, Americans Anders Manga, Third Realm and Chiasm and Germans Arise-X.

And Deviant UK Britons turned skillfully combine gothic electro and electrogoth. And the projects continue, and continue to appear. It is said that in the late 90s in the UK have the preconditions for the creation of a new direction based on the Gothic electronic music - cyber-goth. Goteki project in the music decided to experiment with the sound of gothic electro, broken rhythm, vocals and Pankov cyber aesthetics, inspired by the famous British music Sigue Sigue Sputnik. However, their work was continued only partially Australians Intra-Venus, and then style has sunk into oblivion, and are not formed.

Back To The USSR:

  • Russia: Purple Fog Side (+ synth-goth), Neutrale Erde, Antilav, Omnimar, KryoniK Moon (+ dark electro), [Cyber: Flesh] (+ dark electro), Expiring Time (+ darkwave)
  • Estonia: Suicidal Romance
  • Lithuania: Mirrors of Mind (+ synth-goth)
  • Belarus: Azida (early material)

Darkwave musical direction is one of the most controversial music styles of dark scenes. Initially, it was applied to any and all projects that plays post-punk, gothic rock and other styles of gothic music. However, over time, it was named styles as darkwave took a clear shape. This guitar music with ambient-atmosphere and whispery vocals reciting. The music feels obvious influence of post-punk. This was at the beginning of darkwave.

Then groups in various parts of the world began to bring in a lot of their darkwave elements from other styles, and the darkwave, which originated in the late 80's, at the moment almost died. In its pure form it is played very few, but many people use it in their work. The founders of the style can be considered darkwave German Goethes Erben, who were formed in 1989. However, in the same year he formed another group with a similar sound, but with a greater electronic component. The name of this group Endraum. Only here darkwave guitar got more development in Europe than its electronic counterpart.

Mega Swiss darkwave Lacrimosa was played on earlier albums, and only then went to gothic metal. Also, we did the Germans Illuminate, which became a kind of standard darkwave with Goethes Erben for a long time.In the mid-90s in Germany appeared Untoten is another group, which had a significant impact on the transformation of concepts into darkwave style. However, in the early 2000s, they also switched to a more rigid sounding gothic metal, combined with dark cabaret.

In the US, darkwave not received such a development, as in Europe. After Endraum for electronic darkwave path followed by the Americans Oneiroid Psychosis, have added to the music neoclassical and industrial experiments. At a certain period of creativity to darkwave addressed such renowned projects as the Italians and Germans Kirlian Camera Deine Lakaien and Diary Of Dreams, but still their main work lies more in the field of synth-goth. But the mysterious German project Sopor Aeternus created his unique sound on the basis of darkwave and neoclassics with dark ambient, which no one has yet been able to reproduce in the framework of its project.

  • Latvia: Dat Mavet
  • Lithuania: Antigone
  • Estonia: Lakissova

This style is a step away from the classic guitar sound darkwave to email. As I wrote, darkwave guitar has not been developed in the United States, but American musicians added to the sound darkwave fashionable at the time trip-hop. And get a narrow style, but nevertheless has a right to exist. One of the first bands in this style were Switchblade Symphony, which began experimenting with trip-hop. It was seen then and skeptical audience and critics. But their Collide-American colleagues have made a much bigger breakthrough in this area and become a kind of benchmark for future musicians of this direction. Musically it looked quite simple: in the darkwave sound added broken rhythm of drums, typical of trip-hop. In the early 2000s, the scene dark-trip-wave replenished former metal bands, among which were the Norwegians The 3Rd And The Mortal.Style is not a particularly popular, but imeet a stable audience, and representative offices in many countries around the world.
