Great Anime to Watch on Netflix:

If you’re an anime fan, you’ll notice that there have been more anime appearing on Netflix recently, especially Netflix Original Exclusives. With more anime on Netflix, you might ask yourself: Where do I start? I’ve made this list to include both Netflix Originals and other anime.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Trailer:

Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood:

Fullmetal Alchemist and the remake Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is about the Elric brothers and their failed attempt to bring their mother back to life. Ed lost an arm and a leg and his younger brother Alphonse is nothing more than a soul attached to a suit of armor. Together the brothers seek the Philosopher’s Stone in order to restore their bodies back to normal.

I’m immensely biased because this is my favorite anime ever, both of them. I just adore the story, the characters, and the soundtrack. I love everything about Fullmetal Alchemist and I’m very happy that I can easily recommend it to anyone who has a Netflix account. Buying physical copies is another story. Aniplex USA took back the licenses so they’re out of print in America. Scalpers have gouged the price on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood because it’s the more popular version because it follows the original manga.

Both anime are fantastic and a lot of fun to watch, if you’re wondering where to start watching anime, Fullmetal Alchemist is an excellent starting point.

Fate/Zero Neon Alley English Dub Trailer:

Fate/Zero and Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014):

Fate/Zero is about the Fourth Holy Grail War, a secret battle between Mages for the wish-granting Holy Grail. We follow Kiritsugu Emiya and his Servant Saber as they fight for the Holy Grail to have their wish granted. It was recently removed from Netflix but is still available on Hulu and Crunchyroll. I will update this article if it comes back to Netflix.

In Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (2014) Kiritsugu Emiya’s adopted son, Shirou Emiya also participates in the Fifth Holy Grail War, seeking to follow in Kiritsugu’s footsteps and become a Hero of Justice.

Both anime have a very interesting story, stunning visuals, and excellent English and Japanese dubs. This is one of my favorite anime and it’s well worth watching. It is an overhyped anime so if you expect the best anime you’ve ever seen you probably won’t get that, but I really enjoy both series and It is very well done, it can be very slow paced at times with too much info dumping so it all depends on how much you can tolerate it, so see for yourself if it’s something you like, if you’re unsure of how to get into Fate/Stay Night, read my article here.

Durarara!! English Dub Trailer:

Durarara!! Series:

Durarara!! and Durarara!! X2 are anime based on the light novel series Durarara!! By Ryohgo Narita, the author of Baccano! It’s the interwoven stories of characters living in Ikebukuro, Japan. Mikado Riyuugamine moves there, seeking an escape from the ordinary. His friends Masaomi Kida and Anri Sanohara are both keeping secrets from him that affect more than just him. Meanwhile the Headless Rider, Celty Sturluson searches for her missing head.

Durarara!! is a fun and intriguing, the characters are unique and fun. The non-leaner storytelling makes it an interesting watch and the animation by Brain’s Base is good too. It is available on DVD and blu-ray and is licnsed by Aniplex USA.

Death Note English Dub Trailer:

Death Note:

I know in my review I said I didn’t like Death Note, as in I hated the main character Light Yagami, but that doesn’t mean I can’t give the anime a recommendation. It’s a very well done anime with an interesting story, characters and keeps you guessing what will happen next.

It’s also a great anime for newcomers to start watching as it isn’t geared towards Japanese otakus who do nothing but watch anime all the time. It’s also a very mainstream title that a lot of people have seen and enjoyed.

Just don’t watch the live action Death Note, the anime is better. It is available on DVD and Blu-ray and is licensed by Viz Media.

Sword Art Online English Dub Trailer:

Sword Art Online:

I hate Sword Art Online, I hate Kirito because he’s overpowered and boring, but I will still say that it’s worth streaming on Netflix. It’s got an interesting premise of gamers being trapped in a virtual game where if they die in the game they’ll die in real life. I know anime critics have nitpicked the poor thing to death and whenever new Sword Art Online anime come out, they come out to complain about it, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t at least give it a shot, it might be something you might enjoy even if I didn’t.

It’s got great animation, an excellent English dub, and a great score. People usually complain about the story, but you should still try it despite my personal dislike of it. You might enjoy it more than I did and it might become your favorite anime! It is available on DVD and blu-ray and is licensed by Aniplex USA.

Bleach Trailer English Dub:

Bleach:

Bleach was the first anime that I watched that I actually knew it was anime. It’s about Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who can see ghosts. He meets a mysterious woman, Rukia Kuchiki and discovers that she is a Soul Reaper, a being that helps the dead move onto the afterlife while battling invisible monsters known as Hollows.

Bleach is a decent anime, I really enjoyed the first 63 episodes of the story, I never kept up with it so I never finished the anime or the manga. Even though I didn’t watch all of it, I still found it enjoyable and it’s a very easy Shounen to get into. It is available on DVD and Blu-ray and is licensed by Viz Media.

B: The Beginning English Dub Trailer:

B: The Beginning (Netflix Exclusive):

B: The Beginning is a murder/mystery with a supernatural twist. On the island of Cremona, the Royal Investigation Service is trying to catch a serial killer known as “Killer B”, meanwhile a mysterious group of supernatural beings is battling a young man named Koku.

I really enjoyed B: The Beginning, it was a fun murder/mystery with an interesting supernatural aspect involving scientists trying to revive ancient gods, but I really enjoyed it, it was fast-paced an interesting. I enjoyed the English dub a lot and the animation is good and I found it to be excellent.

It’s not perfect, but it is something I enjoyed a lot.

Knights of Sidiona Sentai Filmworks Trailer:

Knights of Sidonia (Netflix Exclusive):

Knights of Sidonia is a science fiction story about humanity’s survival as they travel through space looking for a new home and their battle against the Gauna in their mechs called Kabizashis.

A young man named Nagate Tanikaze leaves his home underground and steals food from the rice factory of the spaceship Sidonia. He is recruited to become a pilot when he has nowhere to go, but he’s different from the other pilots, he can recover from just about any injury.

Knights of Sidonia is an interesting anime. It feels like The Walking Dead or Attack on Titan set in space with giant robots, called mechs by anime fans. It’s an interesting setting because of the used future, hard science fiction. I like the characters and the story, even if the 3D animation looks really weird at times.

It’s worth watching because of the characters and setting but you’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not you like the animation style or not. It is available on DVD and Blu-Ray and licensed by Sentai Filmworks.

The Seven Deadly Sins Part 1: Funimation Trailer:

The Seven Deadly Sins (Netflix Exclusive):

The Seven Deadly Sins is an anime about a princess named Elizabeth who searches for the Seven Deadly Sins, the most powerful knights in the Kingdom of Liones. She wants to overthrow the Holy Knights who have taken over because she knows that what they’re doing is wrong.

I enjoyed the anime a lot. I found it to be fun and exciting, even if Meliodas being a pervert with Elizabeth became an annoying joke. It’s a fun fantasy adventure romp with interesting characters and an enjoyable plot.

The Seven Deadly Sins is an anime that I enjoyed binge-watching. I’m looking forward to when Season 2 is available on Netflix, it’s definitely worth checking out. The anime is available on home video from Funimation Entertainment.

Naruto Trailer:

Naruto:

Naruto is an immensely popular Shounen anime and manga that is now completed. The first half of the story, the original Naruto anime is up on Netflix, its continuation, Naruto Shippuden is uploaded in Japanese with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, but the original Naruto is available in Japanese and English on Netflix.

While it doesn’t have the most impressive start, it is still a fun an entertaining anime. It is one that has mass appeal to a mainstream audience and it’s worth checking out if you’re curious about it.

The anime is available on DVD. It has been licensed by Viz Media.

There’s a lot of Anime on Netflix, So find something you’ll Enjoy!

Between all the anime I’ve highlighted here there should be something you’ll find that catches your interest. There are a lot of popular anime on this list but they’re all anime that will grab your attention.

There’s a lot that anime can be as an entertainment medium. It’s a whole lot of fun and these are the best anime that Netflix has in their catalog right now. I will update this once I watch more anime on Netflix so this list will always be changing and growing.

Was Netflix not in your budget and that's why you had to drop it?
