Paramount 'Paranormal' Experience

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY could roll out into an even wider release--just in time for Halloween. The Movie has a chance to cross over to a mainstream audience on Halloween weekend. It will be a tell-tale that has been perfectly timed for 2009 Haunting Season.

10 years ago the Blair Witch Project hit forever changed Hollywood's idea of the perfect film. It was made for just $60,000. The viewers weren't sure they are watching fiction or a documentary. The film earned $140 million at the box office. This year, Paramount tried to replicate that horror movie's success with Paranormal Activity. The horror movie, about a couple that suspects it is being haunted at night in its San Diego home, was made for around $11,000. And, like Blair Witch, it is presented as found footage.

Will see if this movie appeals to the audience beyond the usual horror fans and pushed into wider release. The film was screened in college towns by giving future fans the opportunity to demand its screenings in their movie theatres. The news quickly travelled to Facebook and Twitter cyberspace. DreamWorks bought Paranormal Activity: they liked the concept, and after Spielberg screened the movie, was decided to release the movie unchanged.

The studio's highest-profile film for 2009 was "The Lovely Bones" (Peter Jackson, director) that made $65 millions. Paranormal Activity, a low-budget film is becoming a high-grossing hit and could bring studio a huge profit. Another movie from Paramount, Martin Scorsese's "Shutter Island" has been pushed from an October 2009 release date to February 2010.

I have seen Paranormal Activity and Paranormal: The entity

which is the same type of Blair Witch project filming style. They were both entertaining, and messed a bit with one's psyche. Makes me want to write a script and secure a camera and cast two or three people into any normal situation gone awry. The trick is to make it look like a home video, but classy, add some Hitchcockian suspense, and wrap with a killer ending. great hub.~~~MFB III
