Harry Potter Inspired Artwork
Having spawned thousands of fanfics, so it's no surprise that the Harry Potter series also inspired many a Deviant Art users to create beautiful masterpieces in the name of The-Boy-Who-Lived. J.K. Rowling gave them plenty of scenes to detail as well, even leaving millions more up to the imaginations of these creative geniuses. Whether it was the graveyard interaction in Goblet Of Fire or the pensive memories in Deathly Hallows, if there was one thing Harry Potter fan artists never lacked, it was inspiration.
Some people took the series into their own hands, creating a story with their artistic medium and sharing it with the world. Their followers waited in anticipation as they drew comics detailing certain scenes and came up with fan ships we all secretly hoped Rowling would introduce. The ever-popular Harry and Hermione, the fire-and-ice Draco and Ginny, even the odd pairings like Marcus Flint and Oliver Wood. Artists took what had been in words for so long and gave it color, bringing to life the pictures J.K. Rowling had created in our minds with her lengthy novels.
The scenes didn't even have to exist to be drawn. Artists saw a picture in their mind and they detailed it to the best of their ability on paper. They took well-known facts about certain characters and even created posters like the one to the right. K-Dodge, one of my favorite Deviant Artists, did the same thing with Remus Lupin. Going through the galleries on DA means constantly 'favoriting' the work of artists who put in hours, sometimes days on these finished pieces. Like J.K. Rowling themselves, they wrote in their descriptions about how they created and re-created certain works before they got them right. It's amazing to see what one series has inspired its fans to do.
My favorite part about Harry Potter inspired artwork is what the artists came up with on their own. While many stayed true to the books, there were many who took couples like Severus and Lily and made their fantasies come to life. J.K. Rowling would never detail a kiss between the two of them, but hundreds of artists made that fan ship a reality. Writers come up with ideas all the time, creating fanfic after fanfic on various sites and platforms, and we embrace them with open arms because they create in our minds a picture we want to see. Artists have done the same thing, but instead with images. We don't have to imagine anymore, they bring those dreams to life.
