Hello in There.....Hello

Tonight I'm going to see John Prine so I was just in the mood to convey an important message from him that I'll be enjoying tonight at the show. If you like the words go check out the music, I think you'll like him.                                                                                                                  We had an apartment in the city,
Me and Loretta liked living there.
Well, it'd been years since the kids had grown,
A life of their own left us alone.
John and Linda live in Omaha,
And Joe is somewhere on the road.
We lost Davy in the Korean war,
And I still don't know what for, don't matter anymore.

Chorus:
Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."

Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more,
She sits and stares through the back door screen.
And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen.
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy,
We worked together at the factory.
But what could I say if asks "What's new?"
"Nothing, what's with you? Nothing much to do."

So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."
As always I wish you Peace, I wish you happiness!

Hey Merle Ann, it was a great time. I got to see a couple of friends that I don't get to see much anymore and got to see my old friend John Prine, who was, as usual at his singing and storytelling best. As always too he made me laugh and broke me down. Wish you could've been there, you would have loved it! Peace and Love-Tom

I think it was he who did "Grandpa Was A Carpenter," witty storyteller her is.

Repaired a gas furnace at an assisted living center in town a week or so ago. The guy in one of the little bitty apartments there couldn't have been over 55 - but it was obvious that he wasn't in good health. Man, that guy really wanted to talk. After the repairs were made I stood there and rattled with him till my boss came looking for me.

I think that because the boomers are all headed towards retirement, and the increase in life span that the elderly should now get more attention and respect.

      Hi Tom

You have prompted me to watch him sing this song on Utube but this is the first time I have read and understood all the words and now it all makes sense, some of your comments on some of my blogs. A GREAT song. Hope you enjoyed the concert and hope he sang this song just for you.
