Hollywood Heartbreak: The loss of so many celebrities in 2016

The year 2016 has been full of loss and heartache for Hollywood. So many celebrities have passed on, actors, actresses, musicians, producers and many more that have graced our screens and concert halls with their undeniable talent. The movie industry will not be the same without them, they will forever live on through friends, family and former movies they have starred in. Let's take a look at some of the extremely loved stars we have lost this year alone.

Florence Henderson

Florence graced our TV screen as the loveable mother of the Brady Bunch from 1969-1974. She passed away at the age of 82 of heart failure in Los Angeles on November 24, 2016. She was the youngest of ten children born to Joseph and Elizabeth Henderson. Her mother taught her to sing, and by the age of twelve she was performing in grocery stores, singing for the shoppers.

Florence began her career by performing musicals on stage at Lincoln Center. She was a fan of games shows and quite frequently sat on the panel of the game show, Hollywood Squares. In 2010 Florence was a cast member on Dancing with the Stars in the show's 11th season. Although she was the fifth contestant eliminated, she gave it her all and enjoyed her time she had on the dance floor.

Florence was married twice in her life. Her fist marriage was to Ira Bernstein in 1956. Her second marriage was to Dr. John George Kappas in 1987. Sadly, her second husband passed away in 2002.

Florence was an accomplished actress with several credits under her belt/ She appeared in shows such as I Spy, The Love Boat, Password, The Muppet Show, Murder, She Wrote, 30 Rock , as well as a variety of other movies, TV shows and game shows.

Gene Wilder

Gene was probably best known for the character he portrayed in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. Mr. Wilder passed away on August 29, 2016 at the age of 83 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease, an illness he tried to keep secret It was when Gene at age 11, saw his sister acting on stage that caused him to became infatuated with performing. Gene Wilder was born with the name Jerome Silberman, however; when he turned 26 years old he chose the professional name, Gene Wilder. Gene took on roles from movies such as Bonnie & Clyde, The Producers, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and many more throughout the ears.

During Gene's career he was married three different times, first to Mary Mercier in July of 1960, they divorced just after five years of marriage. Gene then met and married, Mary Joan Schutz in October of 1967. That marriage didn't last either, as the couple divorced seven years later. Gene's third marriage was to Gilda Radner in September of 1984, sadly, Gilda passed away in May of 1989 of Ovarian Cancer.

Gene won and was nominated for a variety of awards between the years of 1962-2003. Along with his movie career, Gene Wilder also appeared in several different TV shows and stage shows.

Christina Grimmie

Young Christina Grimmie was a singing contestant on the sixth season of the popular TV show, The Voice. This talented young lady passed away June 11, 2016 due to gunshot wounds. She was signing autographs and snapping pictures with fans, when an estranged man walked up and opened fire. Just before the gunfire, Christina was fixing to reach out and hug the man, thinking he was just another fan waiting in line for an autograph. When the shots began, Christina's brother tackled the man to the ground in hopes to save his sister.

Christina was just 22 years old, enjoying what she loved to do, sharing her beautiful, talented voice with the world. Due to the events of her death, her former Voice coach, Adam Levine, contacted the family and offered to pay for her entire funeral.

Christina was loved and respected by thousands of fans, along with all her family and friends. She will forever be missed, and forever in the hearts of millions.


Prince Rodgers Nelson passed away on April 21, 2016 of an accidental overdose, he was 57 years old. Prince took the nation by storm with his singing ability and his genius guitar skills. His song, Purple Rain is still hands down one of his most famous. One thing that set Prince apart from other musicians was his extravagant stage outfits, along with his makeup and stage presence.

During his career he was romantically linked to high profile celebrities such as Madonna, Carmen Electra, Kim Basinger and Sheila E, just to name a few. He was a well respected, loving musician who enjoyed sharing the talent he was born with He had many different songs hit #1 on the billboard charts, and his music is still listened to around the world today. Prince worked very hard and made his mark on the world hat will last a lifetime.

2016 has been very tough year on the entertainment industry. Not only have we lost these four beautiful souls, here is a list of some of the other loving, talented celebrities we lost this year. (This is not a full list)
