Project Good Words

My Inspiration

In 2014, Jo_Goldsmith11 took it upon herself to initiate the Light2Love Project Good Words.

Jo pledged to use good words and publish articles used to empower, encourage, support and defend those who need to be shown love.

Jo offered us a good word for each week to focus our thoughts, behaviors and actions on...In the 7th week, Jo wrote her perspective on the word hope.

However, as 2014 came to an end, Jo filed away her Good Word articles - as she begins the process of publishing it in e-book'. Shyron E. Shenko continues to write a beautiful poem to accompany each Good Word to inspire and lead us.

The ripple effect of the Good Words Project throughout the HubVille community has been heartwarming.

Please join me with some of my musical thoughts and reflections on the word hope...

Hope in Music

As a nurse I have witnessed much sadness, despair and grief in 30 years of practice - aware that disease, illness, tragedy, trauma and death occur on an ongoing basis.

However, I have seen just as much recovery, healing, education and birth in my practice... hope and promise for the future.

Music has a way of making my approach more optimistic and hopeful in all that I do. If I needed surgery, I would be totally on board with my surgeon's music of choice playing in the background.

I have listened to music from Les Miserables, Eurythmics, to bring me back from some of the darkest times of my life - times when I could see very little hope.

Hope may be one of those words that conjures different musical thoughts in all of us. How about you?

Are there any songs or lyrics that bring HOPE and optimism to you...like these do for me? If so, please share YOURS in the comment section below... thanks, mar

Hope in Lyrics

We may never, never meet again - On that bumpy road to love - Still I'll always - Always keep the memory of (1)... We can never know about the days to come - But we think about them anyway - And I wonder if I'm really with you now - Or just chasing after some finer day (2)... As long as I'm breathing - I'll be there - Whenever you call me (3)... I was born by a river in this little old tent - Oh just like this river I've been running ever since - It's been a long, long time coming - But I know, but I know (4)...

Sam Cooke: A Change Is Gonna Come

Lyrics of Hope

But the tigers come at night - With their voices soft as thunder - As they tear your hope apart - And they turn your dream to shame (5)... We gotta start - Looking at the hands of the time we've been given - If this is all we got and we gotta start thinking - If every second counts on a clock that's ticking (6)... The world won't get no better - We gotta change it, yeah - Just you and me (7)...

John Legend: Wake Up Everybody

Lyrical Hope

Some will win - Some will lose - Some were born to sing the blues - Oh, the movie never ends - It goes on and on and on and on (8)... Who am I to disagree? - Travel the world and the seven seas - Everybody's looking for something (9)... Don't worry about a thing, - 'Cause every little thing gonna be all right (10)... Let's enjoy it while we can - Won't you help me sing my song - From the dark end of the street (11)... Someday I'll wish upon a star - And wake up where the clouds are far - Behind me - Where troubles melt like lemon drops - Away above the chimney tops - That's where you'll find me (12)... No one can tell me - That I'm too young to know (13)...

I Found A Gem In Ruby

Speaking of Hope...

I have connected with my friend Ruby (Always Exploring) since my early days at HubPages.

Although we've never met, we share many similarities with our career of nursing, our musical tastes and our passion for a 'feel good' story.

Whether Ruby is writing about the death of a patient or rain, she puts her brand of hope on the subject.

In flash fiction stories such as Our Time Will Come When The War is Over and Play It Again Sam, Ruby shares her own version of a 'happily ever after' style, offering hope and inspiration to her readers.

I was thrilled when Ruby agreed to take the baton of HOPE in this project.

A million thanks and big hugs, dear Ruby! Love, mar

Gail, This comment has given me double the pleasure because I read it when first written and I'm reading it again today as I land to actually write you back! And I have HIGH HOPES that your weather will be much brighter today, my sweet friend! Dad and my oldest brother loved Frank Sinatra so I am a fan of his from way back as well...

I HOPE so too Sunshine but I am sure glad you did in any event.

Love you both very much and sending hugs, Maria

      Dear Maria,

Looks like I missed this one when it was published but I'm glad I'm reading it today. I could really relate to the things you wrote about nursing during the intro to this hub.

As I was trying to think of a song that gave me hope I flashed back to my childhood days when the movie theme song, "High Hopes," crooned out by Frank Sinatra, was popular and a fun one for kids like me to belt out. I always loved the image of an ant moving a rubber tree plant when "everyone knows an ant..can't...move a rubber tree plant! LOL

Thanks for elevating my spirits on a dreary day.

      Hugs,

      Gail

      Good morning, dear friends,

I HOPE you didn't think I had abandoned you all...busy days with the school season but good days with some beautiful, hopeful youth in the nursing profession, so I know you all understand.

Mary, Isn't it cool that I am using 'The Impossible Dream' for this Monday's word... I agree that Jo has started one of the most amazing trends. Thanks for your support, votes and sharing.

Good to see you Audrey. I agree!

Peg, Come to think of it, you have quite a gift yourself! I love when you stop by and your lyrical voice is as lovely as you.

Genna, I love how moved you are by the soundtracks in movies. I have seen "Shawshank Redemption" but it has been way too long...I will revisit this timeless classic and tune into the closing music now. Ruby: "Warm, funny, genuine, wonderfully candid and creative" -- I would say you have gotten our girlfriend's number down pat! Hope you are getting some good REM sleep, you sweet darling!

Shyron, I have never heard of this song but I am about to remedy that. The lyrics are like a balm to a wound - simply beautiful and tender, my sweet friend, just like you.

Love, hugs and a peaceful Sunday to you all, Maria

Maria, just like you this is awesome. I like Danny Gokey- Hope In Front Of Me

      I've been running through rain

That I thought would never end

Trying to make it on Faith

In a struggle against the wind

I've seen the dark and the broken places

But I know in my soul no matter how bad it gets

I'll be alright there is hope in front of me

      There's a light I still see it

There's a hand still holding me

Hope even when I don't believe it

I'm down but I'm not dead

There's better days still up ahead

      Even after all I've seen

There's hope in front of me

There's a place at the end of the storm

      You finally find

When the hurt and the tears and pain

      All fall behind

You open up your eyes and up ahead

      There's a big sun shining

Right then and there you realize

I'll be alright there is hope in front of me

      There's a light I still see it

There's a hand still holding me

Hope even when I don't believe it

      There's better days up ahead

I'm down but I'm not dead

      Even after all I've seen

There's hope in front of me

      There's hope still burning

I can feel it rising through the night

      And my world's still turning

I can feel you love here by my side

      You're my hope

      There's a light I still see it

      Your hand's still holding me

Hope even when I don't believe it

      I've got to believe

      I still have hope

      You are my hope

      Hope in front of me

Oh, Maria…what can I see except that I love this series. Music is all things, is it not? And hope is part of this, and of love. Two songs on your list stand out for me: Journey’s "Don’t Stop Believin,” which I still love to listen to, and Garland’s Rainbow.

One of my favorite pieces music is actually a score from “Shawshank Redemption” by Thomas Newman. It is played at the closing the film. Andy Defresne’s friend in prison, Red, didn’t believe in hope. “Hope is a dangerous thing; hope can drive a man insane. It’s got no use on the inside.” Through his relationship with Andy, this is the very thing Red finds and is felt in the music in the closing scene with Newman’s beautiful music. Red’s closing words as narrator are, “I hope.”

I am delighted to see you pass this baton on to Always Exploring, our beloved Ruby, one of my favorite writers and hub friends. Warm, funny, genuine, wonderfully candid and creative…there is no one else like her. Voted up and shared and much more.

Maria, You have an incredible gift for joining lyrics into meaningful thoughts. Added to this, you've picked a truly beautiful person to continue the good words of hope in music, Ruby. What a beautiful word, hope. You know, "It keeps you running" (Doobies) to "till you reach the Higher Ground" (Stevie Wonder). After all, "We've Only Just Begun". (Carpenters) Loved this, and you.

Beauty and comfort ooze from these hubs! Maria you offer hope as a person, now in your hubs. What a beautiful road Jo has taken us all on. Of course it was easy for you to pick up the journey.

The Man From LaMancha's "Impossible Dream" was the first song to come to my mind. I can't tell you how many times my children and I have listened to that. Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer" offers hope, Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down", and so many more.

We need to live with hope and optimism and your hubs certainly show us the way.

Voted up, useful, beautiful, and interesting.

      Good morning, my friends,

Martie, "Where there is life there is hope." What a lovely way to start this day...as well as the thought of you! Thank you for stopping by, my love.

Mike, HOPE is such a beautiful name. I'm not surprised you selected it for your beautiful daughter's name. I think you know more music than you let on, btw!

Bill, You say the kindest things. Thanks for being you, my dear friend.

Thanks, dear John. I agree that Ruby was the perfect choice to bass the baton of HOPE to...

Theresa, "If we are still living, then there is always hope." Another profound thought from you, dear Sista and I thank you for sharing the beautiful Lady Antebellum song as well. You are the beautiful one!

Hoping you all have a peaceful day...off to spend some time with my students and will catch up more this evening. Love, Maria

      Hi Dear Maria,

I am loving this musical "Good Words" challenge you have going on here, and Hope is essential in this life to get us moving forward no matter what! Your music choices are always wonderful. I am thinking of Lady Antebullum's cancer survivor song, "One Day You Will" at this moment.

Ruby certainly is an excellent choice to whom topass the baton of hope, and I look so forward to reading her submission.

If we are still living, then there is always hope.

Another profound hub, loaded with music, about a good word. We have a very popular saying down here: "Where there is life there is hope."

Next to love and faith, hope is the most unique and significant human characteristic.

Beautiful, Maria! Ruby does promote hope in all her writings. Looking forward to see her run with the baton.

Oh Mar, what can I say to convey my feelings right now. This is so beautiful. I loved this, " Totally on board with my surgeon's music of choice playing in the background. " Wouldn't it be great if this would be the norm in every operating room? I will be back to watch all the videos. I watched Sam Cooke's A change is gonna come and it was beautiful. A change has certainly come about since he sang that song so many years ago. I am honored to be chosen to carry the baton of hope. I will attempt to write something that will inspire others to HOPE for a better tomorrow. Thank you Dear One. Love you.

I've been listening to this dear Maria, and you can't help feeling inspired by this emphasis on hope - which just happens to be one of my favourite Good Words! Lovely music, and that is where your talent lies - you see everything in terms of music, fitting musical thoughts and compositions together like pieces of a jig saw puzzle. That helps the rest of us to make sense of the pieces.
