Hopi Astronaut. Not just a band but an attitude adjustment.
Let the great Spirit lift you
We got issues brothers and sisters
What do you get when you mix a creole Zydeco sound with a Native American Hopi sound, and mix it all up in San Francisco?
Well what you get are issues. Then record it and mix it in such a way where you are sitting in the room with them and they are just buddies. What comes with that is an invitation to join in. So I will dub this style of music “join in music”. Have you got some spoons, a table top or steering wheel, start tapping and join in!
They strange thing about this new genre is that they seem to be playing for themselves. Not like they want to listen to themselves but rather that playing makes them happy and joyous and carefree. Well I’ll be damned but it is contagious.
There I was working on some important get paid for it writing for a lawyer client for a client for the court. Serious business.
As I said my fingers just found these guys.
Clearly I am no musician and clearly not a music reviewer. But that old foot just got me out of the chair and dancing a boogie like some kind of ho down with a Hopi rain dance and a smile grew across my face and I got happy.
I judge others and their work.
But I just cannot shake a feeling about this music that felt good inside. I am not going to endorse this music or even suggest you go out and buy it – somehow I doubt it is for sale. If it is the price is cheap for fun and happy which I still do not think you can buy – but this is close.
It is a new day dawning. Thank God for our new generation.
One last thing about this band.
They are found on FB. http://www.facebook.com/HopiAstronaut But in truth they are found in the joy that we all find in music. They are found in the hearts of young people everywhere. They are like the young boys in the neighborhood that hit you with a snowball, you just can’t help laughing and throwing some back. If you have never felt that way, give Hopi Astronaut a try and jump right in.
