How to Be Like a Jedi in Real Life

Updated on December 16, 2012

If you are looking for steps to become a real Jedi, there is no way on Earth. For humans of this planet, being Jedi-like is the next best thing. Here’s how to be like a Jedi in Real Life. Being Jedi-like is easy if you are will to put some effort in the sacrificing your time in the service of others and put importance in the life of others rather than yourself. The first thing you’ll need to do is to learn the Jedi code. However, it is not easy as it sounds. There are many versions of the Jedi code. Three different codes are described in this article.

You will not find references of the code in any of the Star Wars movies. They only exist in the so-called “Extended Universe”, such as authorized Star Wars novels, comic books, and role-playing games. In the movies, we see examples of Jedi code being practiced but none of the code was ever mentioned explicitly.

Be familiar with the Jedi through real world examples. Jedi are like warrior monks with super or beyond super powers. Their way of life is organized and the members adhere to a strict code. Live like saints and examine they way they live in peace and how they fight at war. You will find similar Jedi qualities.

Originally, the code was a mantra written in a five-line form below.

Emotion, yet peace.

Ignorance, yet knowledge.

Passion, yet serenity.

Chaos, yet harmony.

Death, yet the Force.

In the Star Wars Extended Universe history, the Jedi Code went through several changes throughout the centuries. The Jedi code can be derived from our own human Faiths or philosophy. Shown is the basic Jedi code.

The Basic Jedi Code

There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no chaos; there is harmony.
There is no death; there is the Force.

Revised Jedi Code

The rewritten code is shown below. This version of the Jedi code is more practical for human beings to apply.

Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy.

Jedi use their powers to defend and protect, never to attack others.

Jedi respect all life, in any form.

Jedi serve others, rather than rule over them, for the good of the galaxy.

Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.

Jedi are the guardians of peace in the galaxy.

Become a guardian, defend others and improve yourself. Practical application: You can do this by joining the military, serving in law enforcement, or learning martial arts. Join the military or police to face the difficult task of keeping the peace and protecting people.

Jedi use their powers to defend and protect, never to attack others.

Learn martial arts to improve yourself and defend others if you truly practice enough. There may be unexpected situations where this skill will be handy. With great self-defense skills you may be able to protect people who are oppressed.

Jedi respect all life, in any form.

Respect all life, in any form. In other words, “love one another”. It can be easy to oppress lower life forms so all life must be respected.

Jedi seek to improve themselves through knowledge and training.

Improve yourself. Practical application: The Jedi are excellent at making and fixing things. Become an engineer or technician to help fellow citizens to solve technical problems such as saving the environment.

Jedi serve others, rather than rule over them, for the good of the galaxy.

Serve others by helping people in any way. Help others by healing people. In the expanded Star Wars universe, Jedi have healers too. To follow the code of serving others and improving yourself, learn to be a doctor or any medical skill.

Note: Lawyers don’t seem to exist in Star Wars history. But they do carry out justice based on the Galactic laws of the Republic. Execution however, is not carried out (usually).

The ideas may have inspired people to make the Jedi a legal religion in some parts of the world. But the ideas were derived from real life religions and philosophies. People can just keep their original faith and beliefs to emulate the teachings of the Jedi.

To be a Jedi in real life, confront people who act in direct opposite of the Jedi way of life. It is people with Jedi like behavior that can bring them to the Light.
