Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Movie Review (2009 Movie)

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a really funny animated children's movie filled with adventure and suspense. The animated movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs begins with a scene of two animals fighting over a scarce acorn in the cold and icy environment.

Later in the movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, we see Ellie and Manny, two large woolly mammoths who are excited to be expecting a baby woolly mammoth.

Diego, another talking animal character in the movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a large saber tooth tiger that practices chasing a gazelle and he is losing his edge with outrunning potential prey because he is growing older.

  • Ellie the woolly mammoth thinks that something is bothering Diego the saber tooth tiger and encourages Manny to go talk to him.
  • Manny tells Ellie that "guys don’t talk to other guys about their problems". According to him, they just give each other a punch on the shoulder.
  • Ellie says "that’s stupid" and insists that Manny goes to talk to Diego. When he does, he gives Diego a firm nudge with his trunk. In a funny moment, Diego says, “Ow, what did you do that for?”
  • A confused Manny says “I don’t know” and goes on to tell Diego that Ellie thought something might be wrong.
  • Diego talks about how he is thinking of moving on from the eccentric community of bonded animals that are like a family.
  • Diego tells Manny that Manny and Ellie are expecting a baby and that is great news but that is Manny and Ellie's “adventure” not his. As word spreads that Diego is planning to leave, everyone feels tension.

A sloth named Sid in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs the movie

Another movie character in Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is another creature, a sloth named Sid that tries to encourage Diego the saber toothed tiger to stay, saying you can’t leave now. We are (all) expecting a baby. Diego reminds Sid that no, he is not expecting a baby and that growing family will be Manny’s and Ellie’s not his.

  • Sid feels flabbergasted and feels like he needs to go in search of a new herd of his own.
  • He tries to build his confidence, saying that he can do this. He knows how to make friends.
  • He readily encounters some creatures and says hey “amigos” and they quickly run away from him.

Sid the sloth looks at his reflection in some ice, saying that at least he still has his looks and the ice immediately cracks like a mirror cracking. The cracks become a much larger hole and Sid falls through to an underground area where he stumbles upon three dinosaur eggs.

Sid the sloth and the dinosaur eggs

Sid looks around, calls out “Hello?” and then is excited to take the assumed to be abandoned dinosaur eggs as his own.

  • He is eager to proclaim that this will be his new family.
  • He will be a “mommy”.
  • It is not long before the three dinosaur eggs hatch, imprint on Sid and they call him Momma.
  • He gives them a bath, takes them to a playground where they terrorize and attempt to eat other young animals, and destroy the “nursery” that Manny has been working on for the baby that he is expecting with Ellie.
  • Manny is totally frustrated and tells Sid to send these animals back where they came from. Manny says, “They don’t belong here!”
  • Sid says, “I’m not giving up my kids!”
  • Well, the dinosaur’s real Momma, a massive dinosaur is not happy about this and is soon searching for her kids! This is all within the first day of the dinosaur egg hatching.

It's all pretty hilarious.

Cute and funny movie

In Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, everyone is terrified when this massive dinosaur comes barreling through, as many take cover and hide. Sid and the three dinosaur babies are all grabbed up together by the huge dinosaur and she carries them away.

Subsequently, the woolly mammoths Ellie and Manny, Diego the tiger, opossums Crash and Eddie and others go off on an adventure to find Sid and rescue him.

They had thought that dinosaurs were extinct but discover a whole world beneath the ice where they still exist. Much of the plot of the movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs focuses on the animal friends’ adventures in trying to rescue Sid the sloth while attempting to stay alive themselves.

The movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs shoots back and forth between what Sid is going through and what his friends are going through to find him. At one point, the massive dinosaur is about ready to eat Sid but her dinosaur babies fiercely protect him from her and then, seeing her babies’ attachment to Sid, she is ready to protect him as well and not hurt him.

..And yes, Ellie the woolly mammoth goes into labor with her baby while they are all exploring the dinosaur world looking for Sid. She has to scream out the code word “Peaches” that she and Manny had talked about to let Manny know that the baby is coming. Diego is the first to get to Ellie and he lets her hold his paw while she is experiencing the labor pains. Of course, she squeezes his paw super hard! The adventures and fighting off dinosaurs continue all while Ellie is in labor.

The baby woolly mammoth is a female and Ellie and Manny end up naming the baby Peaches!
