In the Electric Mist Film Review

In the Electric Mist in a crime thriller based on the novel of James Lee Burke. The film was directed by Bertrand Tavernier and stars Tommy Lee Jones. The film tells the story of a Louisiana police Detective Dave Robicheaux (Tommy Lee Jones), who is on the case of a serial killer who is targeting young prostitutes.

In the Electric Mist is an interesting film, it mixes the traditional crime thriller format and ads more surrealist elements. The film does a great job at setting the scene of a dirty and gritty Louisiana and makes the setting the hero of the film, this is both positive and a negative as in some ways it over powered the actual story line. The film also took a bit to long to get going and i feel they could of added more clues to the crime and more elements to the story rather than taking up time showing characters that didn't really have to much to do with the plot. In the Electric Mist is also a sequel to a 1996 film starring Alec Baldwin as Dave and maybe if i had seen this film i would of got more out of it. Peter Sarsgaard does a great job playing the drunken Hollywood star Elrod Sykes and in my opinion has the best performance in the film. Regardless of the film drawbacks if you a looking for a crime thriller with a bit of a twist it is worth a watch. Overall i give the film 6 out of 10.
