Indian Actresses 15 - Bollywood and More
Indian Film Actresses 15 with Roma, Reka, Roja, Riya Sen, Sameera Reddy and more
Here we are at my fifteenth article about the women of Indian cinema, Bollywood, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali and Kannada films.
This time we have actresses from the past, present and maybe even one from the future.
Also we have links to other Indian cinema articles, and a few links so you can watch some of these Bollywood films online.
Hulu seems to have become a pretty rich site for many of the Indian films.
I think you are pretty much going to be limited to Bollywood there and not a lot of the other lesser known films.
Though "lesser known" is relative....
Reema Sen (also known as Rema Sen, Reemma Sen or just Reemma) was born on October 29, 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
(Anyone notice a lot of these ladies were born in October?)
Like a lot of these other ladies, she started out in modeling, then went to music videos and finally the big screen.
She made her acting debut in the 2000 low budget Telugu film, Chitram with Uday Kiran.
Reemma has gone on to appear in almost thirty Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali and Kannada films.
In case you are wondering about all the name changes, Reema Sen changed her name to Reemma to improve her luck.
I think it has something to do with numerology.
Also, she is now just billed as "Reemma".

Bhanurekha Ganesan was born on October 10th, 1954 (See?!?) in Madras, (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, India.
She is better known to her fans by her stage name Rekha.
Rekha has made almost 200 films, ranging from mainstream movies to art cinema (which I spoke about in one of the earlier Hubs).
Both of her parents were actors, her father was the "King of Love" in Tamil cinema Gemini Ganesan and her mother was Tamil and Telugu film actress actress Pushpavalli.
Rekha started out as a child actor in the 1966 Telugu film Rangula Ratnam.
Riya Sen was born Riya Dev Varma on January 24th, 1981 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
She is part of the famous Sen acting family which includes Suchitra Sen (her grandmother), Moon Moon Sen (her mother) and Raima Sen (her sister).
Yes, Riya started out as a model, then went to music videos, but before all that, she appeared as a child actor in the 1991 film Vishkanya.
She has gone on to appear in almost thirty Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and at least one English language film.
Although she is regarded as a sex symbol and is very popular in the media, she still hasn't had the acting success that she needs.
Roja Selvamani was born on November 17th, 1972 in
Although her acting debut was in the 1992 Tamil film Chembaruthi, she has had most of her sucsess in Telugu films.
She has appeared in close to fifty films.
Roma Asrani is yet another model turned actress.
She was born on August 25th, 1984 in Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India.
Roma made her acting debut in the 2005 Telugu film Mr. Errababu, and has gone on to appear in fourteen Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada films.
For her 2006 Malayalam film, Notebook, she won the 2006 Asianet Award for Best Female New Face of the Year.
Sadhana Shivdasani was born on September 2nd, 1941 in Karachi, Sindh, India (which is now part of Pakistan).
She made her acting debut in the 1958 film Abana, and went on to appear in over thirty films, her last one being Ulfat Ki Nayee Manzilen in 1994.
This is the first actress I have profiled that had a haircut named after her.
Director R.K. Nayyar suggested that Sadhana get her hair cut like Hollywood star Audrey Hepburn.
She did, and the "Sadhana cut" became a huge hit.
Sameera Reddy was born on December 14th, 1979 in Rajamundry, Andhra Pradesh, India.
She has two sisters, Indian model and veejay for Channel V Meghna Reddy, and model, VJ, and scriptwriter Sushma Reddy.
Sameera started out in the music video Aur Aahista by Pankaj Udhas.
This got her some attention, and she made her big screen debut in the 2002 Bollywood movie Maine Dil Tujhko Diya with Sohail Khan, also making his acting debut.
Sameera has appeared in twenty five films, and she has three scheduled for 2010 release, with one planned for 2011 so far.
Sara Khan was born on August 6th, 1989 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India.
Sara started out as a model, then moved to TV where she has had a very successful career.
She has appeared as an anchor on Doordarshan Madhya Pradesh, ETV, Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?, Amul Star Voice of India 2, 10 Ka Dum and Dance Premier League.
Although she is a TV star, she has recently been meeting with Salman Khan, so Bollywood may be in her future.
Indian actress Sarika was born on June 3rd 1962 in New Delhi, India.
She started out as a child actor in the 1960s, and went on to appear in almost ninety films.
Her daughter's are both actresses.
Shruti Haasan is an actress and playback singer, and her other daughter Akshara Haasan is also an actress.
