Indian Film Actresses 2 - Asin, Bipasha Basu, Bhavana, Saira Banu, Bhanupriya and more.
Here is my second article about the women of Indian cinema, with not only Bollywood, but Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada actresses as well.
Some of these actresses you may know, and some you may have never heard of before this.
Unlike Bollywood, the other film industries don't get a lot of press here in the US, so this is a chance to change all that, and maybe along the way introduce you to a few Bollywood stars from the past you may have never heard of as well.
So let's start off with this list of actresses, models, TV hosts...and even one doctor.
Indian TV and film actress and model Aamna Sharif was born on July 16th, 1982 in Mumbai, India.
She made her acting debut in the Balaji Telefilms serial Kahiin To Hoga where she appeared from 2003 to 2007.
Aamna also appeared on the TV game show Deal Ya No Deal, which was the Hindi version of...you guessed it...Deal or No Deal.
She has appeared in four movies and four television shows so far.
Her last film was the 2014 romantic thriller, Ek Villain, with Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor.
"Tollywood" actress Aarti Puri (sometimes listed as Aarthi Poori) has appeared in Hindi, Telugu, Bhojpuri, English and Punjabi Films.
Arthi was born on February 13th, 1983 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.So far she has appeared in nine films
Aditi Govitrikar (also spelled Gowitrikar) is a model, actress and ...a doctor.
Yes, I think that is our first doctor here.
She was born on May 21, 1974 in Panvel, Maharashtra, India.
Although originally a doctor, Aditi started modeling and she won the Gladrags Mega Model contest in 1996, “best body” and “best face” at the Asian Super Model Contest in 1997, the Gladrags Mrs. India 2000 contest and went on to win the Mrs. World 2001 beauty pageant in Las Vegas.
She has done nine TV shows and movies, and appeared in the third season of Bigg Boss, where she hung in there till week 11.
Former Bollywood actress Anita Raj was born on August 13th, 1962 in Mumbai, India.
Her father is character actor Jagdish Raj.
Since her debut in Prem Geet (1981), Anita has appeared in almost seventy films, the last one being Thodi Life Thoda Magic (2008).
Aruna Irani was born on August 18th, 1952 in Mumbai, India.
She made her acting debut at the age of nine in Gunga Jumna (1961).
Aruna went on to appear in an incredible 370 films, her last being Yaar Meri Zindagi (2008).
And if that weren't enough, she appeared in eleven TV shows, and was nominated ten times for the Filmfare Award as Best Supporting Actress, winning twice.
Indian film actress Asin Thottumkal (or just Asin) was born on October 26, 1985 in Kochi, Kerala, India.
Asin made her acting debut in the 2001 Malayalam film, Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka.
She has gone on to appear in seventeen Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films.
Her latest film was the 2009 Bollywood musical, London Dreams.
Babita was born on April 20, 1948 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India.
You need not wonder where Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor got their good looks, Babita is their mother.
She only appeared in nineteen films, making her debut in the 1966 movie, Dus Lakh.
Besides being the mother of Kareena and Karisma, Babita is the wife of Randhir Kapoor, the daughter-in-law of Raj Kapoor, the grand daughter-in-law of Prithviraj Kapoor, the sister-in-law of Rishi Kapoor, Rajiv Kapoor and Neetu Singh.
Actress, model, TV host and humanitarian Bhairavi Goswami was born on November 12th 1984.
Though being born in South India, she spent most of her time growing up in the UK.
Starting out as a very successful model, she moved into acting, making her big screen debut in the 2007 Bollywood film, Bheja Fry.
Besides movies, she has appeared in several theater productions.
Malayalam film actress Bhama was born in 1988 in Mannarkadu, Kottayam, Kerala.
She made her acting debut in the 2007 Malayalam film Nivedyam.
Since then she has appeared in nine more films, all of them (with the exception of the 2008 Tamil film Ellam Avan Seyyal) Malayalam.
Actress, model and dancer Bhanu Priya was born on January 15, 1967 in Andhra pradesh, India.
Her sister, Shantipriya, also acted in several films.
Bhanupriya made over 100 films during her career and appeared in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Bollywood films.

Indian actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhan was born on January 15th, 1951.
She mainly performed in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu language films, making her acting debut in the 1961 film, Kappalottiya Thamizhan.
Bharathi was married to Indian actor and singer Vishnuvardhan, until his passing in 2009.
Bhavana Menon was born Karthika Menon on June 6th, 1986 in Thrissur, Kerala, India.
She made her acting debut in the 2002 Malayalam film, Nammal, and has gone on to appear in over forty Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films.
In 2005, Bhavana won the Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress for her role as Sameera in the Malayalam film Daivanamathil
Bhavya (also known as Bharathi), is an actress in Kannada language films, that appeared in over one hundred films.
Besides films, she also appeared in the in the TV soap opera Durga.
Bhumika Chawla is an actress in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Bhojpuri, Punjabi and Malayalam films.
She was born on August 21, 1978 in New Delhi, India and made her acting debut in the 2000 Telugu film, Yuvakudu.
Bhumika has appeared in close to forty films and has won many awards for her performances.
Of course, like Ash, I have done several write up on the lovely Bipasha Basu.
She was born on January 7th, 1979 in New Delhi, India and made her acting debut in the 2001 Bollywood film Ajnabee.
For that role, she won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
Bipasha has gone on to appear in over forty films and been nominated and/or won a ton of awards.
In 2005 and in 2007, the British weekly newspaper Eastern Eye named her the "Sexiest Woman in Asia" beating out other gorgeous women like Madhuri Dixit, Priyanka Chopra, Aishwarya Rai, Laila Rouass, Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Iman Ali.

Legendary Bollywood actress Saira Banu was born on August 23, 1944.
During her career from the 1960s to the 1980s, she appeared in almost fifty films.
She made her acting debut at the age of seventeen in the 1961 film Junglee, and got her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress for her role as Rajkumari "Raj" .
Saira is married to Indian film actor and former Member of Parliament, Dilip Kumar.
