Indian TV Serial Review | Bhaskar Bharti

Updated on April 29, 2011

The concept of Bhaskar Bharti is unique and considered to be most amazing in the history of Indian Television. The show was aired by the Indian TV channel Sony Entertainment Television (India) on May 25, 2009 and became quite a hit among the young stars of Indian viewers. But unfortunately the show came to an end on December 17, 2009, the reason of what is still a mystery.

The Origin

It is believed that Bhaskar Bharti is a remake of the popular Argentine TV show Lalola which was aired on August 28, 2007 and finished on April 29, 2008, broadcasted by TV channel America TV.

The show Lalola obtained nine Martin Fierr Awards, the prestigious award of Argentine for Television and cable network shows.

The Story of Bhaskar Bharti

Bhaskar was the chief editor of Men's Universe magazine, and hails originally from Gwalior. He was a handsome man was most popular among women; however, he keeps moving in and out of relationships, as he doesn't believe in the concept of love. He had a huge number of girlfriends but finally when they came to know the actual character of Bhaskar they became furious. Eventually, one of his girlfriends, whom he promised to marry, curses him to turn into a woman, so that he may understand the pain and anguish that he has caused her and other women. The curse comes true, and Bhaskar transforms into a woman that night.
He became puzzled by this sudden change and tried to turn himself back into a man but could not succeed. Realizing that he had no choice but to continue his daily life as a woman until the curse could be reversed, he tried to go back to his workplace. He declared that he was Bhaskar's cousin Bharti and told that Bhaskar had to leave to attend to a family emergency, and that he had asked her to assume his responsibilities at his office until he returned. The story was accepted by the office management and he was able to get his job back. But he realized that getting everyone's respect and attention would prove very difficult, more as now he was a woman. It was really amazing to watch the activities of Bharti who was trying to act as a girl but frequently doing mistakes. She usually walked like a man, holding her purse over her back as a man would do with a coat and always mixed up her genders when speaking. The story was full of comedy and entertainment.

Thank you Tkumah for the appreciation. I also agree with you that woman should get due respect even in the family.
