How the Music Found Me

For some time, I have been discreet about my musical tastes, but through the experiences and all, I have to share how the musical pieces have helped me feel better through trivial times.

Also, surprising celebrities were seen wearing a Metallica shirt. So, I thought that it would be an interesting share!

But to start off with my latest quote:

Age is just a number, Passion is everything.

Lars Ulrich (Drums), James Hetfield (Vocals & Rhythm Guitar), Kirk Hammett (Lead Guitar), Robert Trujillo (Bass)

Powerful Music, & Powerful Lyrics

Recently, I found myself reconnecting with Metallica's music, and found that it would help me through some personal hardships I was experiencing, and suddenly I became a re-visiting fan.

At first, when I became a first-time fan of their music during the Load and Re-Load days, I have also learned that Metallica had just changed their musical direction from their 80's sound, since "Enter Sandman" & "Nothing Else Matters" from their Untitled album had skyrocketed in Billboard's Musical Charts, and landed massive airplay from Pop Stations around the world.

But needless to say, I've come to like their 80's sound, their 90's sound, their 2000's sound, and their current sound. This band packs a concert of 3 different generations of families, and they will make surprise performances at the Music Awards, such as a recent performance of "Moth Into Flame" with Lady Gaga. They'll perform with a Symphony Orchestra, and they'll bring along an amazing pianist like Liam Liam. They have also made collaborative efforts with rapper Ja Rule on "We Did It Again."

To add to this, they have made special acoustic performances to support different causes. In particular, they have embraced their visits to children's hospitals, signed autographs, and instilled hope for the lost souls. They have also invited aspiring instrumentalists to jam with them, whether at their studio or on stage at a live concert. They have admirable traits that would separate them from their past egotistical characteristics, and they appear to be humorously humble with well-seasoned personalities.

They have also made great cover songs worth listening to. I personally like most of them, but my favorite two are "The Small Hours," and "It's Electric."

But even if you're not a huge fan of heavy music, they have harmonies that will give you goosebumps. "Orion" is a great example. Just when you'd think that the 8-minute song has ended, Cliff Burton begins to introduce his amazing bass performance that calls for a moment of attention.

Metallica's 2nd bass guitarist Jason Newsted also delivers a nice bass introduction in "Devil's Dance," and the latest 3rd bass guitarist Robert Trujillo, can improvise incredible bass riffs on stage.

I know that a couple of my musical buddies may not fully agree with my musical tastes, and perhaps to each and their own, but the moment that I realized how much their music has lifted me and inspired me through the toughest of times, I just knew that their music is worth continuing being a fan to.

One of my most favorite lyrics (or quotes) comes from their song Sanitarium:

"I dream the same thing every night
I see our freedom in my sight"

Of course, songs like "The Unforgiven" may be too gloomy to listen to. However, the songs that lift me up and frequent my playlist are:

Rare song: "Escape"

Honorable mention: Surprisingly, "Escape" (from "Ride The Lightning" album) is Metallica's least favorite song to perform on stage, but I find the lyrics quite powerful! It's a great song to listen to, if I'm having issues with a co-worker/colleague, dealing with gossips, a disagreement, someone that naysays/gives bad advice, etc., it's definitely something that we all need to escape:

"Out for my own, out to be free
One with my mind, they just can't see
No need to hear, things that they say
Life's for my own, to live my own way"

Review Of "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct"

Impressively, they have made a music video for every song on this album! Which band out there can you say does that? "Atlas, Rise!" is by far my favorite song at the moment.

When I first heard their latest album, my initial thought was that they really have dug back into their 80's roots, since "Hardwire" has a very speedy sound to it. After giving the album a listen, I seem to like "Atlas, Rise!" "Moth Into Flame," and "Halo On Fire."

"Dream No More" has a similar sound to that of Stone Temple Pilots. The vocals, and the guitar chords on the bridge part before the chorus, really highlights that kind of feel, and could very well be my favorite song from the album at this present moment and time.
