Interesting Facts About Rapper Juice WRLD

Updated on December 10, 2019

Rapper Juice WRLD was born Jarad Anthony Higgins on December 2, 1998 in Chicago, Illinois. The young 21 year old passed away on December 8, 2019 after getting off his private jet at the Midway International Airport in Chicago. It is reported that the pilot of his private jet alerted authorities that there were guns and drugs aboard the aircraft and law enforcement were waiting to search the jet when it landed. Higgins appeared to swallow pills outside of the jet as law enforcement searched inside and sometime after, Higgins started to go into convulsions. Higgins was transported to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Before his untimely passing, Juice WRLD had gained great mainstream success after starting out as an "emo rapper" who recorded music on his cellphone and uploaded it to Soundcloud. Many of friends and family have commented on how he was a very down to earth person who loved nature. Here are some more interesting facts that you may not have known about his life.

He Vowed to Stop Doing Drugs Months Before His Death

In July 2019, Higgins announced he was going to stop doing drugs like Codeine via Twitter. He stated that, "Addiction kills all but you can overcome". His girlfriend, Ally, agreed with his statements and he even talked directly to her and apologized for "scaring" her and "tweaking". This definitely gives some insight into some of the things that the young musician may have been struggling with. But, it seemed from the tweet that he was not going through the struggle alone, but that he had his girlfriend, Ally, staying by his side and helping him through it.

His Former Name was "JuicetheKidd"

Before changing his name to "Juice WRLD", Higgins was uploading music on to Soundcloud under the name "JuicetheKidd". He says the name was inspired by Tupac Shakur who played the character "Roland Bishop" in the move Juice. He later changed his name to Juice WRLD to represent "taking over the world".

He Played Many Instruments

Some may be surprised to know that Juice WRLD was a musician who could play numerous instruments. He started playing piano at four years old and even took lessons. He also played the guitar, drums, and trumpet. I wish we could have seen this very talented side of him.

His Song "Lucid Dreams" is Sampled from a Sting Song

The video for "Lucid Dreams" has over 400 million views on YouTube and the song peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It also went 5 times platinum and was definitely one of the most popular songs when it debuted in 2018. But, did you know it sampled a song from legendary Sting called "Shape of My Heart"? Apparently, Juice WRLD was not aware of the song until after making it which took only about 15 minutes to create.

He Was Not Allowed to Listen to Rap as a Kid

Juice WRLD was raised in a very Christian household with his mother where he was not allowed to listen to hip hop and his mother mostly listened to old school gospel music. He did, however, listen to music on video games that were in the genre of rock and pop music. You can tell that this influenced his musical style as he later discovered and stared to delve into rap music.

He Died on the Same Day as John Lennon

John Lennon was killed on December 8, 1980. That's exactly 39 years before rapper Juice WRLD. John Lennon is most known as the founder and rhythm guitarist of the world famous group The Beatles. He was shot four times in the back by a fan that he had signed an autograph for earlier that evening. Some fans have mentioned the relationship in the date of Lennon's death to Juice WRLD's not only because they are both famous musicians, but because Higgins also mentions Lennon in his song "All Girls Are the Same". The line goes, "All this jealousy and agony that I sit in/ I'm a jealous boy, really feel like John Lennon."

Juice WRLD definitely left his impact on the music industry and gained a variety of fans. He will be missed by many. Beyond the speculation into his death, I wanted to write this article in order to reflect on his life and hope that people make an attempt to get to know him outside of all the negativity that is being reported about him.
